My little boy is 11 months old but his favorite toy is this little hard plastic doll. The doll is my neices but he wont give it up. He isn't mean to the doll he is actually very loving he gives the baby doll kisses and hugs and is very affectionate. But it has gotten to the point that he wont go to bed without this doll. Is there anything i should be worried about?

There is nothing wrong with him identifying with a doll. He is still a baby himself.

He's 11 months old!! There's nothing wrong with it. If he's showing this behavior at the age of 5, then I'd ask this question, but right now, let him be a baby. After all, he's only doing to the baby, what you're doing to him, so take it as a compliment that he's actually comforted by you and is doing that to his doll.

NO!!!! Not at all when my nehpew was a baby he played with my daughters barbie doll and would'nt leave it either. He did that intill he was about two, now he is crazy about women he says that the women is his barbie, he's 5 now his favorite barbie is a tall blonde. He respects women very well so you don't have nothing to worry about its normal for most baby boyz he'll grow out of it. Just introduce him to other things that you think will pull him away from the doll, slowly he will stop.

They say when they are young like that, let them play with dolls. They actually encourage parents to let little boys play with dolls, as this helps them learn to be more nurturing.

They say boys who have experience playing with dolls and use them like a baby are bound to be closer to kids and nurturing then those who did not.

I think it's fine now as he is only 11 months old. When he starts to become School age is when you need to worry and teach him the difference between boy and girl.

there is nothing wrong with this. Most kids have some kind of item like a security blanket only with him it is this doll he likes and actually i have read that studies have shown that little boys that play with dolls grow up to better better fathers. I'm female and when i was a kid i loved to play with trucks. I had a wide variety of toys but it didn't effect my sexual identity to play with toys that most people would think of as boys toys. I think it just makes a person more well rounded.

Nah I don't think so. I think you just have a very loving boy. My aunt is a nanny and she watched a boy that liked to wear dresses and makeup. It was a phase and he gave that up for trucks and tools when he hit 4. I think that he just might like other babies and it happens that he found a baby doll. I think he sounds soo sweet and you shouldn't be worried. It is after all only a toy and what is so wrong with boys playing with dolls? If my daughter wanted to play with trucks I would never say no!

Oh, of course it's normal for him to play with a doll at this early age. He is just a baby, and loving caring baby at that. He sees you loving and caring for him, he is just doing what you do. Offering him a variety of toys will allow him to experiment and develop motor skills, dexterity and speech, not to mention imagination. He is way too little to show signs of sexual preference. Let him play, he will let you know when he tires of the doll and moves onto something else...maybe a teddy bear from Build a Bear. He can pick out his own animal, and then stuff it and dress it himself, he'd love it!

If it had been an "action figure" instead of a doll, would you still be worried?

He's too young to know that there's a difference. He's attached to this toy for whatever reason, and showing preference has none of the signifigance that adults put on it.

it is very normal for a little boy to like dolls. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. What do you think GI Joe is? He's a doll. But seriously a baby doll...he's looking at it as another baby, and he wants to share his love too that he gets. But also he is experimenting. If his dad is in his life have dad show him boy stuff, like cars and trucks, motorcycles and baseball, football stuff like that. My 5year old nephew loved playing with dolls, now he only tears them apart. He loves his motorcycles, trucks and cars. Heck, he used to watch soap operas with me. Still does sometimes. But there is nothing wrong with it. Just make sure when he starts to understand the differences between girl stuff and boy stuff...than push more boy stuff in his direction, if dad's not around your gonna have to show him how to play cars and trucks. That's what I had to do with my nephews. See I have 3 girls...but that's what I would do if I had a boy.

No, it is a face, which is normal for a baby to like. He is developing compassion, and showing love, and it is great. I have two sons, the one who had a baby sister come home at 18 months, and fell in love with her, kissing her and sitting with her, is the most compassionate, gentle boy you can imagine. He plays with helicopters and builds space ships out of lego now, at 8 years old, but he would die for his sister, I am sure. What more could a mama want?
