I live in Portland Or. Im on welfare and they want me to find childcare fast!! Thay said that they pay for it but i guess they dont cover the whole tuition so i odnt know what to do. If i dont find a place to keep my child i will lose my benefits. Is there any website outhere that i have missed or do you know of someplace personally?? I dont just want to leave her with some quack babysitter, not that they are all quacks... they just make me nervous. You have seen the news im sure you understand. Any ways i dont know what to do i have been looking for about a month now and time for me is running out.

to the guy who answered the question first. she possibly got the computer donated to her by the school system. and how do you know that a family member is not paying for the Internet for her. If you get it with the right company it is as low as 13 dollars. She can look for employment on the Internet and make a resume. So she is proof that those of us who have had to be on wail fare are not necessarily there because we are lazy or stupid. You would be surprised how far down a divorce can take you. KEEP DOING YOUR BEST TO GET OFF OF ASSISTANCE YOU WILL BE SO PROUD OF YOURSELF WHEN YOU SUCCEED AT IT. I KNOW I AM MUCH HAPPIER NOW THAT I DO NOT HAVE TO BE ON IT. BUT I HAD TO MOVE TO ANOTHER STAT TO DO IT BECAUSE OF THE JOB SITUATION IN MY TOWN AFTER YOU GET A LIST OF APPROVED PROVIDERS INVESTIGATE THEM YOURSELF TRUST ME ON THIS .

Have you thought about babysitting children yourself? That's what I did when my kids were little. It turned out to be much better than the welfare. I made like $350 a week. Plus my husband had a full time job and he was making the same so our money was great. Think about it. Now days you can make $100 or more per child. If you don't have a license you can keep up to 5 or 6 children. And to the shmuck that posted the nasty comment about you having access to the Internet. I wonder has he heard of using a friends Internet access or the library. Oh my bad, he probably hasn't heard of a library since that would be somewhere where he could learn to give educated replies. Instead of helping someone to find a way to get off of the system. I guess being a jerk is easier for him. Ignore his stupidity. You do what you have to do to take care of your child. Good luck hun.

Call your local Head Start if your child is between 0 and 5 years old. They will be able to tell you what is available for free. And if your child is accepted into Head Start and you get involved with them as a parent, I guarantee it will change your life for the better as well as your child's life.

go to the dept. and ask for their approved list of providers, in Washington they have one..so Oregon should have one. Look through the yellow pages and schedule a visit..you'll get a good idea if you will want her there or not..good luck

Ask them to suggest someplace.i live in TN,and our system has a lot of childcare facilities. In fact it is easier to get a good one through them free of charge than it is if you found one and had to pay.

find a way to stay home with your kid. set up a day care for others, maybe. of course you are afraid to leave your baby with a stranger. it's bad for her, bad for you, bad for our country, despite the hideous welfare system. nothing is worse than leaving your kid like that.

good luck.
