I think that the reason that alot of step children say that their step mom is mean is because they do not view that person as a parent or even an authority figure in their lives. They resent being told what to do by someone who is not their parent.
My question would be are all step kids spoiled, disrespectful brats?

no. some step-mothers can be the best thing that ever happened to her step-children. If you are concerned about being mean (or your step-mom being mean) then you should think about what you could have ended up with.

I am a stepmother of an 8 yr old and I don't think i am mean i love that girl like she is mine and I have a stepfather and he was great as a child i thought he was mean but I look back on that I was really bad to him i treated him horrible and he was actually nicer than i deserved. so i think it depends on the child and the step parent. how much they both want to put in to the relationship

I have one, she's not mean, although i don't live with her!
I had a physco step dad, i'm talking, he was a physcopath, my stupid mother just wanted someone to sleep in her bed and ended up pregnant, livng through hell and finally divorced again!
Not all are horrible, some are great.

Mine is. I'm a step-mother too, to two grown men. I'm not mean to them. My kids have a step-mother too and she's not mean, just really really bossy.

I am a stepmother, my 18 y/o stepson and I get along great and always have. I have been his step mom for 16 years, and I love him to death.

Nope. Mine was firm. She was the first person to make me follow rules at home. And she forced a few manners on me. She was good to me (still is) and cared about the person I was becomming. That said, I like her lots better now than as a kid. I can see it through a parent's eyes now, and not just a kid's.

Wouldn't know. I'm blessed enough to have two parents who are committed to each other.
