To spank or not to spank, that is the question........My 9yr. old son has been pinching the baby since he was 3mos. now he's 5mos. The baby would scream and my 9yr. old would say he just started screaming well yesterday I caught him for the first time and handled it, but I just want to know how other parents would've handled the situation.

9 sounds very old to be pinching a tiny baby. Honestly it sounds abnormal to me. I could see a toddler or even a 5 yer old doing that at 9 he should be fully aware you don't hurt a baby. I would be afraid he would do other more mean things i would get some psychological help 4 him. I have a 10 and 8 year old i know for sure they are mature enough to not intentionally hurt a BABY and my son is autistic he would not do that. I DON'T THINK 90% OF THE people who answered read this kid is NINE they are giving you advice for a much younger kid like 4 like smack his hand you don't smack the hand of a nine year old.

I don't know, but I would probably spank him. Pinching a baby at 9 years old, that is just weird. Somethings wrong he needs some help, that is just mean.

Do not spank as it was not his butt that did anything it was his hand.

So what you do when you catch him is go over to him and tell him that hurts baby and we do not pinch. You catch him again you slap his hand or you could pinch him back so he realizes what it does.

Make sure you give him a time out when he does this. If you keep up with the discipline then he should catch on and stop.

I dunno, i might have pinched my son back, (NOT HARD), or spanked him. Again not hard!
I'm not an anti-spanking activist! I was spanked a few times, i could probably count them on one hand! But i sure has heck deserved it!
Maybe you shouldn't let your son near your baby for a while, (if you can) teach him if he can't be nice he can't hold the baby!
Kids are funny, he'll get out of it!
Good Luck!

I think its funny when people say "oh no I wouldn't spank him, I would just pinch him back!" Whats the differance there? If you believe in pinching then don't knock spanking!!!!!!!!!!

I personally prefer not to spank. I would pinch the child back.

First time tell
Second time pinch, warn exactly what will happen the third time.
Third time smack.

In my opinion, smacking used properly is not wrong. It does not teach that hitting is a way of getting something. It teaches that if you break rules, you will be punished.

your 9 year old is looking for attention wether its good or bad.If possible try setting some time alone just with him.I went through this with my son hes 3 and my daughter is 6 months.Once i started spending more quality time with him his behavior stopped.Plus i also explained he was big brother he is supposed to protect her and not hurt her and i involved him in helping pick out clothes or fetching diaper to make him feel important. Now no one can go around his sister with out him being right there checking on her.I hope it works same for you
