Could be that he is eating more regular foods now that have less calories than formula/breast milk? That would be my guess or it could be because he is crawling now so he is more active and burning up the calories that he is eating? I hope for the best!

did he just start crawling/moving around? a lot of babies drop off with weight gaining around 9 months, mine did.. once they become active its not all that uncommon.. whats more important is that he follows a growth curve, and not what he actually weighs. I guess what they are concerned about is the weight LOSS in your case.. I would think if he's otherwise healthy and eating just have him checked again in a few weeks.. its probably not a huge deal.. 18 lbs is on the larger side for a 6 month old, maybe he's just evening out now?

If he is otherwise active and normal, he is trimming down due to extra activities, like rocking, crawling, rolling, trying to pull things, etc. Now is the time to start including richer foods, like half a banana in his oatmeal cereal for breakfast, and add some beef to his vegetable lunch, remember he still needs formula. Do not give him sugary drinks, which have calories but don't truly contribute to his body-growth. If he eats well, is active and looks happy, chances are he is completely well...and that is more important than a number on the scale.

Was he weighed on the same scale both times? If not, maybe the calibration is off between the two scales.

Was he weighed in the same state of dress? (Just a diaper is best.)

Has he grown any taller in that time period? Sometimes kids grow UP for a while and then they gain weight for a while....in spurts between the two.

Has he become more active in the last 3 months? Walking, running, etc?

When a child gets older and more active, they don't eat as much. They also may lose a little weight. I wouldn't worry if it levels off. I'm sure your doctor is just being cautious. As long as he's eating and doesn't seem sick, I'm sure he's OK.

Stop worrying.

Your baby is moving and burning calories.

Make sure that he is eating enough.

Cereal, breast milk or formula, vegetables, and fruit. Yogurt.

RELAX.

Is he eating well? He should be on a variety of solids that are appropriate for his age, and he should still be getting breastmilk or formula.
