I've always loved kids, loved being a role model and playing and helping kids along in any way I can. This is strange to some people as both my parents were horrible examples, they used drugs and were both all around sociopathic people. I was screwed up emotionally for quite some time, but I would never do the things they did to me.

I guess for many years, mainly during my later teen years I was determined to have kids to prove that I could indeed be the father mine never was. I always felt different from my abusive parents.

I'm better now, I don't think I'll ever be well. No one who has been as close to the edge as I have every will be. This is what scares me, I don't think I will never be emotionally complete, and I would never bring a children into this world if I was not sure I could be there for this child's every need.

I had my third ultrasound today. They told me my baby weighed 3 lbs 6 oz, and when I asked "isn't that a little much?" The tech told me that was "average". All of the web sites and baby books I have looked at say the baby should weigh around 2 lbs.

I have not gained too much weight, and all the weight I have gained is in my belly. Will my baby be large at birth based on this or could her growth slow down?

Has anyone had a similar experience and the baby was not a 10 pounder?

I'm in the process of adopting my little girl, it will be finalised very soon. She's coming home next month, and I'm getting everything ready for her now. The thing is, my cousin is also pregnant with her 3rd child, and my whole family in concentrating on that (baby shower, gifts, lunches out, etc), and I'm still waiting to get a congratulations from them! Not one person has said anything positive to me yet, last week someone asked me why I didn't want to have my own child instead of someone else's! I'm getting depressed over this, I'm starting to see that my daughter and I won't be able to be around my family, and I'm upset at losing them, but at the same time also angry at them. How would you react to this? I have talked it through with them, and explained why I want to adopt, but I've reached the end of my rope and don't want to explain anymore. My parents are both passed, and my sister lives in Britain, so I feel so alone. How would you feel and what would you do from here

Just the other day we wrote down a discipline plan for our (just turned) 2 year old. He's overall a well-behaved child and we would like to keep it that way. (We do have our bad days though.) I tend to be pretty lienent and permissive--that's just my parenting style I guess. Anyway, looking for feedback from experienced parents (or whomever cares to answer). What do people think about this? What's missing? Anything that won't work?

1. Save yelling 'no' for dangerous activities.

2. Instead of saying 'no' or 'Don't...', show or tell the correct way to do something, or simply distract with something else.

3. Three strikes--meaning that he gets two warnings to stop a behavior and on the third he gets the object of misuse taken away.

4. Reward for good behavior--verbally or with hugs, etc

5. Be consistent about what is and is not acceptable behavior.

Not strict enough? Any suggestions? Thanks!

(pardon my spelling errors--my checker never works on here)

I went to dr this last Tuesday and he said i am about 25% effaced, TMI but I just went to the Bathroom and on the Tp there was snotty looking slime, with a tinge of yellow -- would this just be my cervics thinning out more? thanks!

I am 39w5d, and will probably be induced sometime next week because I am not showing any signs on dilating, and there has been complications with the baby. I have been worried about those days recovering from labor. So, here's my questions.

1. When there is a tear/episiotomy, when are the stitches removed? How uncomfortable or difficult did this make things such as walking, bowel movements, and urination?

2. The bleeding that occurs after delivery, does it really last for 6 weeks? Is it a heavy bleeding or does it tapor off eventually?

3.I've heard sex is not reccomended during those 6 weeks because of infection. Did everyone wait the recommended 6 weeks? If not, was there complications because of intercourse?

Any answers would be helpful.. thanks, people!

I hear that around 16 weeks women feel movement. I have felt what could be movement I guess (like bubbles popping). But it wasn't clear to me, so I'm not sure. And when will I feel kicking and all of that? Thanks!

and within the last 3 days have been losing my mucus plug, yesturday went to labor and delivery with contractions (not painful just BH.) closer than 5 minutes apart for 6 timed hours. They didnt let up after tried laying down, drinking water, taking shower nothing stopped them. Then they sent me home because I wasnt dialating anymore than 2, I am currently 2 cen 90% effaced and at -2 position. Got home from hospital contractions kept up but they said they werent strong enough to be doing anything to my cervix, well, today they are still going but about 10 minutes apart now. Just wondering what could speed it up and if anyone thinks it will come soon.. Its my first baby.

My son is 20 months old does not listen, he is constantly getting into things, breaking things I never thought could be broken, but worse is that whenever we go anywhere it turns into me chasing and yelling at him. If ANYONE but me says stop or sit down HE listens!!!!!! it is becoming so frustrating especially when we are out in public. I dont want to spank or scream any other good options. time out has been working for "the moment" and only that moment then he gets into something else!!!

I have this obsession with names. So, I would like to ask what it is the worst name you have have ever heard or seen?
They can be funny, ridiculous, misspelled, just plain horrible...you get my point.
I came across one tonight while looking at some old genealogy records. A lady's name was "Thankful Over". I guess her mom had a hard birth! :)
Please share some of yours!
Thanks!

We are worried that her sharing a name with a popular wine brand (Kendall-Jackson) that she'll be annoyed with her name and possibly get comments all the time from people she meets, especially once she's older. We can't decide and want opinions. Thanks!!
