It does seem quite good for a child his age. Not entirely uncommon for a child who is spoken to and taught things on a regular basis, they do learn quickly at that age. I would say great job on spending time with your son and encouraging him to learn.

My son is very similar. He's actually been able to recognize the entire alphabet by sight since he was fifteen months old (I have it on video for doubters) and right now at 2 years, 4 months he is beginning to sound out words to read. My doctor always said he was advanced, that she had never seen anything like him. What I started to notice, however, is that kids pick where they want to excel. My son wanted to talk and read. I take him to the playground and children an entire year younger will do things he won't. Physically, he's very cautious and behind. He won't climb bars and I have to hold his hand down the slide. Physically or verbally, I think they all come out even in the end. Some just focus more on one. I wonder if you have noticed something similar.

Yea my granddaughter has also. She knows all her numbers from 1-100 at 2.5 years and has an uncanny ability to notice when i have move an object from one room to another. It's called a photographic memory. She's already learned some German
THey are gifted but remember they go thru many obstacles to be recognized. As parents and grandparents, we want them to be noted, It will come.
Her language skills have been way noticed above her peers.
Just keep encouraging her and just enjoy the time you have with her. The intelligence will make yourself proud, but never forget that's your child, and never push them beyond what they are.

my son could read at small words at 2, count to whatever, knew all his colors letters, numbers, animals etc he is now 5 and still extremely bright.
i try not to brag about it though, but it makes me so proud.
but then again - in other areas he is not so good, he is an only child and sharing is hard for him, and he loses his temper easily.
i think when children go to school the others tend to catch up.
you have probably like i did had plenty of time to spend reading to your son and working with him and thats why he is so bright. we have to work hard to keep them that way after they go to school.

doesn't sound THAT advanced-- he's not doing advanced math problems and he's not reading or writing. So far all the things he can do can be learned by rote (repetition). He's not even analyzing anything for himself yet. You haven't listed any physical things he can do so even if he's intellectually advanced, he's not got any more abilities and in kindergarten, things like getting along well with others and being coordinated is more important than raw knowledge.

Yes! Not "weirdly" advanced, but a bit ahead of the curve, sure. Sounds like he's a very smart little boy. Enjoy! :)

He sounds very advanced. Then again, I've said that to lots of parents when they tell me all the amazing things their toddlers can do too.

My 13 mos old son was speaking 3-word sentences clearly and everybody was shocked... they'd look at him and then asked me, "Did he just say that?"!
But what you describe is awesome - perhaps he's the next Steven Hawkings!
