my son is 2.5 months old, and only falls asleep if he is moving (car, seing, rocking), or if he is lying on someone's chest getting his back rubbed or his bottom pat. i dont want him to think he will get it forever, so how do i get him to sleep without having to do all this, and without him screaming himself to sleep?

My 2 year old son is showing all the signs of being physically ready to come out of nappies. (Tells me before he goes, fetches clean nappies when he wants to be changed etc, can hold his wee if not wearing a nappy)
My problem is that I don't think he's mentally ready because even though I've tried every trick in the book to get him to 'go' in the toilet/potty - eg sticker chart, ping pong ball in the loo, novelty soap to wash hands - he is very reluctant. On the odd occasion that he's gone on the potty I've gone OTT with praise and any accidents he has are ignored and no attention is drawn to it. This morning he sat on the potty for 30 minutes then got up, started hopping about and fetched me a nappy because he needed to wee. I asked him if he would do it in the potty and he said he didn't want to so I left the nappy off in the hope that he would just give in and sit on the potty, but instead he weed on the floor and got upset about it. Should I leave potty training for a while?

From the moment he wakes up until bedtime he eats (or tries to eat!!) fruit all day long. I suppose it could be worse, it could be sweets, but he does not have a daytime nap and it is difficult to get him settled at night time. I was wondering if maybe the sugar in the fruit was giving him a buzz!! any ideas?

And is awake on and off all night. She is 5 days old and during the day she takes a whole 3oz bottle. But during the night she wakes almost hourly feeds a little then goes back to sleep. They have tried tickling her feet, changing her to wake her but nothing works.
As you can imagine they are both shattered, and wondered if there is anyway they can turn this upside down baby, back the right way.

What do you think are the best baby names? I personally like names that are familiar, yet simultaneously distinctive.

Many people tell me I shouldn't joke around with kids & treat them nice because they'll end up not respecting me. & then when I do discipline the kids, they say I need to lighten up.

My son Landon passed away on Jan. 21 2007. Due to complications after birth he died after he was 21 hours old.
Its now what August? And I'm not even half way okay with him being gone..and tonight seems to be hitting me hard.
My son's father recently broke off our engagement. And only god knows why..It has alot to due with having so much stress on our relationship I guess. I just really need some help getting through this and can't seem to find it anywhere else, and I can't talk in person or I'd go see a counselor because all I will do is cry that's all I do anyways.. I want to talk to other moms, On here. Losing your first child is hard. REALLY hard. Anyways this probably doesn't make sense because I'm crying to much and I can't really see the computer screen but I need help.....

If a child is sexually abused by a family member ie a grandparent or an uncle, is this the parents fault that they never suspected abuse was happening? Baring in mind abusers manipulate the family and the dynamics of a family, opinions please.

Why not? People do it all the time, & people tell me I shouldn't talk baby talk to babies. They said it would mess up the vocabulary & create speech impediments. Is this true? I've seen babies receive baby talk & grow up to talk fine, just like anyone else.

right now im 34 weeks and was hospitalized this week because i was having frequent contractions and im already dilated and my son is still breech.

anyways, the doctor said that if i did have my son early, i'd have to pump my milk and feed it to him in a bottle. he said preemies cant suck right? well im really concerned because i have a feeling i might end up having him before my due date, i really want breastfeeding to work, and i dont want to start him off with a bottle.

is it possible and reasonable for me to stand up and ask to breastfeed, or will the hospital force me to pump? i feel really strongly about breastfeeding and i want to start it off right.

need advice please!

I have a 8 months old baby girl. I haven't started giving her any baby food yet. Is this affect to the baby's future development? She is heavier than average weight and very healthy right now. Should I start the baby food right away or can I start whenever I feel it's ready?

Many people tell me that I shouldn't get on a kid's level & joke around with them because they'll think I'm their age & not have any resepct for me when it's time for me to discipline them. & they also say I shouldn't treat kids nice like buying them snacks & giving the money because they'll keep expecting it & then the day I tell them NO, they're gonna start hating me & not respecting me. & other kids' parents tell me that their kids have every right to disrespect me & treat me like they have authority over me because I should've never done anything nice for the kids in the first place. Are they telling me right or wrong? Are you SUPPOSED to be serious with a kid 24/7 & not have any humor? That's pretty boring. My sisters tell me about how my nieces & nephews have a right to disrespect me for wanting to spend time with them. But other people tell me that I MUST joke around with kids & do kiddie activities with them to help their learning & growing. I'm very confused on this subject.

The part that I don't understand is why he is biting himself in such a early age.

My BF and I were having a chat about childbirth earlier today (we're random people, I know). He told me that his mom told him a few months back that a women should go through natural child birth with her first child, because having an epidural while in labor with the first child can harm the baby. She told him that after a woman has had her first child naturally, it is okay to have epidurals with her future children.

I'm curious to know... is this true?
