There are side effects, but they don't affect everyone. It's best to tell your concerns to your GYN. S/he'll go over your health and family history and go from there. If you have any side effects, you can always change or come off of them.

You should be on a form of birth control if you are not ready to have a child yet. There are other forms of birth control other than a hormonal pill, such as condom, diaphram, sponge, spermaside, IUD, and there is also other hormonal options such as the patch, injection, pill, and ring. There are many types of birth control and each has it's own advantages and disadvantages. You will need to do the research (and speak with your dr.) about which is best for you.

I was on the hormonal pill (couldn't take low dose) and found the side effects were horrid for the first 3 months and then I was in so much pain and bleeding I was told I couldn't take hormonal birth control any longer. The side effects are generally mild for most women and include the common things such as breast tenderness (and mind got bigger), decressed appetite and headaches, and these normally go away after 3 months, once your body adjusts to the new hormones.

Speak with your doctor, and do your research.
Do you a form of birth control now, condoms are a wise idea always.

There are literally hundreds on different 'pills' that you could be prescribed. Tell your doctor about your hesitations and she may prescribe a 'mini-pill' which has a lower dose but also has a lower effectiveness. Its trial-and-error with the pill to find one that suits you. My sister has tried nearly 50different ones and has just decided its not for her.
I got an IUD inserted as i got pregnant twice (but it's all good!) on the pill. I don't have to remember to take it everyday, it lasts 3-5yrs, is heaps cheaper than the pill and takes 2mins to put in. Its effectiveness is higher than the pill too and my hormones have levelled off at a much better range than when I was on the pill. I was a b**** all the time when on the pill. My poor hubby put up with a lot!

But some people love the pill and some just need to play around with it to find the right one.

Your doctor will know what is best to prescribe for a first timer.

It all depends on the person...talk to your doctor. It doesn't hurt to try.

I'm on a low-estrogen dose and have had hardly any side effects. The only thing I've noticed is once in a while my breasts are more tender than usual. And it has some really good side effects. lol If you're periods are heavy and painful like mine use to be it could be a life saver.

yes dear, use birth control, there are many types consider these:
cervical colar,
spermicidal lotion,
the pill,
condoms.

If you are sexually active and are not always prepared with spermicidal foams before sex added with the use of condom the cervical colar or the pill prevent pregancy but not STD.

The use of condom should be practiced 100% of the time if you or your partner are not monogamous even if you are on the pill.
This is for your health protection from STD's.
The pill has side effects but none serious as an unwanted pregenancy.
An unwanted pregenancy screws your whole life up protect yourself and your future with a condom.

It's simple as this. Would you rather deal with a temporary inconvenience of a side effect or would you rather deal with nine months of pregnancy,4-20 hours of labor pain and 18 years of raising the child? Not trying to be mean just showing some care.

It never hurts to try it out. Ask for a low estrogen pill they have less side affects. Your obgyn can answer all those questions that you may have.
I personally didn't like them at all and they gave me bad headaches.
I just used condoms. You should be using condoms anyways to prevent std's.

Didn't you just post a question about trying to have a baby? Well, taking birth control won't help that, now will it?
