What is it about the ACLU defending EVERYONE'S constitutional rights that you find so objectionable?

Most criticism I see about the ACLU is based its opposition to the government's establishment of religion or defenses of gays' rights. Why aren't there just as many complaints from liberals about the ACLU defending Jerry Falwell's religious liberty, or the rights of christian children to pass out religious materials during their own time at school? Why aren't there complaints about the ACLU defending the free speech of Fred Phelps or the KKK? It has done all of these things.

Do conservatives think the ACLU actually has a slanted political agenda, or do they have a VERY good understand the true agenda of the ACLU -- protecting liberty and justice for all -- and THAT'S what they really can't stand?

If you are a lawyer could you please answer this question.......what is the position of the law on cutting a neighbour's daughter's hair while out at the mall one evening? I did it to make the child look nice. The Father is taking out a lawsuit against me for close to $25,000 stating he needs to conduct special religious prayers etc for the child and it cost alot. He says "You made a huge mistake cutting my daughter's hair". You did it intentionally and that is it!!!
I sent an apology lettter and he told me he does not appreciate the letter. He wants money and I will pay him after the court case!!!
We were good friends but now I am uncertain ....does one take a friend to court and clean her out because of a small mistake . I do not know anything about his religion and I did not do it with any bad in my mind. Please provide me with your best legal council.

She has hiden her assists with family, money, car, ect., she has just gotten on SSI, with the help of the "family" business 14 mos ago and has not payed child support since then. Her condition is self-induced, she's 400+ pounds now and of cource has some medical problems because of her overeating. BUT, she is still working in the family movie theaters( which I have recordings of her advertizing the movie scheduals and my son now 8 sees her working in management position during visitations) Also, she has money to fly the boy from Texas to Ohio 2 to 3 times a year, pay for lawyers to keep me in court once or twice a year for reaccoring lies of missed phone calls, missed test paper one week, or school schedule notice not sent to her. How can this 400+ pound thorn be pulled from my side and be made to go on a diet and pay her child support?

It is getting ridiculous in scotland. People cant walk past a school smoking, or stand at a bus stop, or smoke within 3 feet of a shop, aswell as not being able to smoke in the pubs and what not! In i way i agree with it, if it going to save people's lives. But they are taking this ban too far. You cant go anywhere in scotland without seeing people standing outside a pub smoking, well the latest news on that is they are going to be fined £50 on the spot! It's already started in some places. A council member, and someone from a smoking society with a POLICE ESCORT. Going around issuing fines, left right and center!!! Now is there not a thief, murderer, rapist,or peadophile to go looking for??NO, they would rather use their police resources to catch people smoking outside a shop and pub!!! It is a nanny state, and the people of england have got it all to come!

I am doubly diabled, in another year I will be blind.
Soc sec has been giving me the shaft for more than 10 years now, by their own admission they owe my children a great amount of money in soc sec back payments, yet I can not even get a soc sec no for my children, all papers are in order, and all applications are with soc sec, have been for more than one year. when I contact them they tell me we are working on it.
I am running out of time, and for me to return to the US and pursue a claim, will involve a great deal of planning, and a great financial sacrifies.

About eight months ago, my husband and I bought a house from someone and we were told we did not have to pay any closing costs. The previous owners said they would. ($3000.00, I think.) Well, when we got there, the mortgage lady had apparently gave us the wrong information, and the seller said we had to come up with almost $900.00. We didn't have that much money on us so the seller said he would give us the money, and to pay us when we got the chance, and if we never got around to it then that was ok. Well, today I got a message on my answering machine from him saying that he was wondering if we were ever going to pay him because he had been waiting on us to call but we never did. Are we obligated to pay him? I had every intention on paying him, but money has been very tight lately, and Christmas is coming up and we don't have the extra cash. What should I do?

You're hard working and under paid. Always reliable and on time. But your co-workers and bosses are the complete opposite. Seeing this everyday is affecting your morale. So do you put your values aside and go with the flow or do you "rat 'em out"? I work for the government, but I've seen this in the private sector as well.

I have to admit, I’m not really one to be up on all the laws and such. But, I thought that when boys turn 18 they, by law, have to sign up for the draft. Maybe im confused on this, but I thought this was correct. HOWEVER, the other day in class a boy told me that girls have to sign up for the draft too. My teacher countered this boy, telling him this wasn’t true, but the boy said that they recently changed the policy. Does anyone here know the answer to this? As a girl, when I turn 18, do I have to sign up a draft?

Actually, an explination of the draft might help me too. Thanks so much.
