It's reasonable if they're expecting a large settlement. They can't touch the money until they have that information. Sounds like a silver lining to me.

Your question doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Are you talking about delaying a final settlement? Delaying service of the lawsuit? Maybe the lawyer needs the defendant's tax ID to perform an asset search. Please clarify the question with more details.

I wouldn't deal with a lawyer who doesn't have a Tax ID. That is one of the first items you need to go into business. You should make sure that the lawyer is legit! The other answer is correct. The lawyer can't open a business bank account without a tax ID. That means no place to accept the funds! Hope this helps!
