This person committed a robbery over 20 yrs ago, they just caught him and are going to deport him. I am not say he did not do it, he did. But deporting him seems very harsh
Hoping someone can clue me in on deportation practices.

I got a parking ticket last week, as I was 10mins over my ticket time. I got unavoidably held up in the bank & hoped Id get back in time. However, I returned to find the warden photographing my number plates & smugly issuing me a ticket for £80, or £40 if paid in 14days. I just find it so frustrating that all situations are treated equally. Some people dont buy tickets at all, whereas other law abiding people who sometimes, due to the nature of life are minutes late back get hit with a £80/£40 fine! Surely there is a fairer way of doing it? (Dont you just love ticket wardens???)

Hello.

I am 23, just graduated from college with a degree in Poly Sci, and I am thinking about running for city council. But I have 3 DUIs.

Do I stand a chance?

My other option is to go to Law School, but I dont know if they allow people to enter if they have DUIs either.

Intially I bounced a check believing that I could get the money in the bank before the transaction went through. Low and behold the bank system was down for cash advances. So I still have a fine to pay and they have given me ten days and ofcourse I dont get the letter till 2 days before the due date. Also I had the money ready before I got that letter and ofcourse they didnt take the money because I didnt get my notificationo in the mail. Can I work out a payment plan with the court? I called them up and I can ask for a deferrment but my court date was awhile ago and I have explained my present circumstances. Any help would be great thanks!

Can a picture/photograph that was not altered and only depicts something that is already in the public domain such as a Rembrandt painting be placed under copyright protection?

In the case of Rogers v. Koons where by Jeff Koons took a copyrighted picture by Rogers and transformed it into a statue, Judge Cadamone found that changing the medium of the subject was not enough change to make it unrecognizable from the original picture and therefore was a copyright infringement.
Now I must wonder in the reveres case, where something that is already in the public domain and all you do is change the medium, is that a substantial enough change to be able to once again copyright it under your own name?
Or more to the point, if I find a photograph of a classical painting on the internet can I use that photograph on my own site with out asking for permission from the photo owner? Or could that photograph of something that is in the public domain be copyrighted? He has only changed the medium...?

What do you guys think of this? My AIM at work is has been blocked today - do you think this has anything to do with the new law? I'm also concerned because a few buddies and I usually joke all day about controversial subjects - even though we are joking do you think my company has a record of my IMs (or will be storing a record??)

When American Indians were forced to live on reservations, had their land stolen by anglos, and were killed or jailed unjustly were they or their surviving family members ever paid legally or apologized to? Would they in this day and age be considered POWs? In the history books was their ill treatment and slaughter ever referred to as a form of genocide?..any comments on these issues?

A local New York City newspaper ran a story about a project that I was involved in, specifically a real estate development. I handled the interior design of the model apartment.
The article certainly was biased against the project and developer for strictly personal reasons, but then went on to state that I am not an interior designer.
This is completely false as my work and my advertising will attest. I believe that the statement was made to intentionally discredit my reputation or mislead my potential clients.

I plan to write to the editor requesting a correction or retraction.
If they refuse to retract it, do I have a case should I decide to sue for libel?

In Qunice, Mass an IHOP wants your dirivers' license before they will seat you. They claim it is to stop people from leavig without paying the bill. Customers fear identify theft.
(1)Whose side do you take? -might depend on your job experience
(2)If it was your ID would you hand it over?

IHOP released a statement - it would reverse the policy immediately.

My former employer thought I was petty stealing. I could tell by some of the comments that were made. The problem is that she and my current boss have a mutual acquaintance. As one can imagine she lied and told her stories of why she believed I was stealing. I am 100% innocent. I have never taken anything from any job. Like they say if you look hard enough you're going to think you see something even when it's not really there. That's exactly how I feel. My current boss now has the whole company keeping an eye on me. Yesterday they made this quite obvious. I feel degraded. I didn't sleep all night. I also, suspect that she has them searching my purse when I'm not looking. on several occasions, someone was standing by my purse giggling. Things seemed out of place. Everyone seems to think it's funny, but I'm very hurt. What should I do?

I have a seven year old daughter and her father is in prison has been there for three years in and out of jail before that. He has never helped me with her I took him to court several times he never paid. He got into the wrong crowd. He sold drugs for a living and he has three other children and probably more that I don't know about. I was abused in every single way by this man. I would love to terminate his rights and change her last name. I don't know how to go about this, I have contacted some local lawyers here in texas but i was told that until he gets out of prison there is nothing I can do. He threatens to take her from me when he gets out What can I do? Please any legal advice would be great.

In Pakistan, as far as rape was concerned, a man could only be prosecuted if the female was able to provide atleast four male eyewitnesses. Otherwise, she may be punished for adultery or fornication. The president just signed a law changing this. The four witness rule will only be used in some cases and sex outside of marriage is no longer punishable by death. It only carries a maximum fine of $160 or a maximum jail time of five years. The religious conservatives there are protesting the law. As far as I can see, this is about the men wanting to be able to get away with rape. Am I missing something?

Its for a rental property in North Carolina where I previously lived.
The property manager sent me a letter stating I still owe $400 because my deposit was only $100.
$500 sounds like a lot of money to fix small repairs. Do I have the right to get an itemized list that shows where my money went?

I went to see my folks as part of my yearly "I give a crap" visit. So Mother is cooking and Father is sitting at the table chatting with me. Mother said something and Father told her to shut up, and she decided to talk back, so I interfered and told her, Hey Broad, the man said shut up, know your place and shut it. She cried and left to her room, after I left she calls me on my cell and tells me nasty things and how I am not her son. Not that I really care.

My mom and her husband has been living rent free in my aunt's mobile home. The relationship is abusive (verbally as far as I know) & she wants out & he refuses to leave. My aunt wants to file an eviction notice to make him leave legally but we don't know how to do it.
She let them move in rent free because they promised to help me with my bills 'cuz I moved out when she got remarried. He refuses to help me with my bills and he owes me $6000 & he refuses to pay it.
My questions are:
How do we file eviction papers?
File a restraining order?

She's afraid to leave 'cuz he has threatned to kill himself & their animals. She thinks that if she does leave, he'll try to hurt me or someone in our family. He keeps her from her family, she has no money, he doesn't work often & won't let her work.
So, she wants out but wants to stay in the mobile home (actually it belong's to my aunt's son). The plan is: kick him out & have my mom & her nephew live 2gether until she gets settled.

My aunt wants to contest my grandfathers will because she is not an heir. The reason being that he has paid cash for her house and bought her a new car, as well as did all the repairs on the house, buy her weekly groceries etc. My grandfather has explained to her that he feels she has already gotten her share and and the rest should be divided amongst the rest of the family. In the event he passes first, my grandmother is sole heir and this is why I am concerned. If my aunt contests the will, she will walk away with 2/3 of the estate, leaving my nanna with no way of supporting herself.

I have just recently noticed something about the government and the law. Some people think of it as a crass system, for example everyone is against the conflict in Iraq. I've been thinking, though: every single law and action has to be considered and thought about carefully, because if something was changed unwisely it could screw up the system known as the government. If a law conflicts with another, it could be disastrous. I'm not with the government, but i'm not exactly completely against it, I myself am against everything going on in Iraq. In other words: i'm never getting into politics because of my personal views and moral demeanor.
