I'm a retail employee. I was watching a customer and watched them shoplift an item from the store. I waited for the person to leave the store before I confronted them. Once outside the store I asked the person if he/she would like to pay for the item and when he/she denied taking anything, I asked if I could check his/her bags. I touched his/her flowers completely forgetting that it's a no-no to touch a customers belongings. Is the person able to take legal action against me for touching his/her belongings or defamation? Can he/she claim defamation/humiliation due to the conversation being overheard? I did not mention the term "steal" or any words relating to it. She also came into the pharmacy to completely empty her bags on to the counter and he/she was throwing it all over the place so some items I had to stop from dropping on the ground etc. She was also very upset and crying. In the end I was unable to see the shoplifted item and she left the store.

Such as what we have seen in Guantanamo Bay. They can be kept there for an undetermined amount of time without being charged. Isn't that against human rights ? And no, before you ask, I do not tolerate terrorism. But isn't it supposed to be innocent unless proven guilty ?

We lost our business due too imbezzlement within the company. We had to sign a personal guarantee with many of our vendors to get started. Now it has been almost a year and we have a vendor coming after us personally. They are seeking restitution through a summery judgement. What can I do, I don't have any assets now to liquidate because I lost everything when I lost the business. I don't feel that this is fair. Does anyone have any advice?

It has just been announced that information about suspected paedophiles will be made public. Given the, rightful, angry response and horrifically projected actions of people, in this forum, to offences committed against children, do you think it can be justifiable to allow public information about "suspects" to be made known? I envisage mutilation and even deaths of innocent people, having read the responses, within this forum, from many angry people. You may recall that a paediatrician was the victim of mob violence, not so long ago, because that mob thought him to be a paedophile through their ignorance.

I expect a lot of "hang 'em, mutilate 'em, torture 'em" replies. but it would be good to hear from one or two who think about it!

Is it legal for an organisation you and your spouse already work for to make a policy against hiring couples, and try to use the policy to force one of you out of the job, or into a lower paying job at the same organisation? Are the rules different for organisations that receive money from the federal government than they would be for a privately owned company? Where can I find the laws that apply to this situation?
