The general rule for time bars on summary only offences is that prosecutions will be time barred if Informations are laid more than six months after the date of the offence. Time will presumably run in this case from the results of the urine sample being obtained, this being the date on which sufficient information is available (or not) to justify a charge, after which the police would have to take steps to make a formal charge if appropriate.
