I need to know the lgal term for this and even better does anyone have any United States Supreme Court case law regarding this subject? It is very important thank you anyone for your help.

"Judicial Activism" is the only term I know for that...and that's not an official legal term.
When a judge rules AGAINST what the law clearly states, he's legislating from the bench...in effect making new law.
All judges take an oath to uphold the law to the letter and intent, but alas...politics has crept into the legal profession.

Ignorance of the law is the offense committed by a judge when deciding a case in conflict with the law.

In response/rebuttal to the first answer,

Even conservative Supreme Court Justices are activists.

Just look at Reno v. Shaw (1993) and Miller v. Johnson (1995).

And, of course, there is Bush v. Gore (2000).

It's judicial activism, or legislating from the bench.
If it were a jury trial, it would be jury nullification.
