The only way to prevent someone from doing it is making the punishments more displeasing than the benefit appears to be pleasing.....
After earning millions and millions (which is probably stashed somewhere) a couple years in jail does not seem all so bad when you have that $$$ waiting for when you get out.
You execute some of the big traffickers, and maybe we'll deter more of the trafficking... don't think it would ever pass past the uber-libs... but I would not be against such a thing

China also took place in the nanking massacre... do you think that was a good idea?
No, I don't think that the death sentence is a good idea for transporting drugs... I think that if pedaphiles and rapists are able to just get probation, drug offenders should at least have a chance to change their lives. That's why in Arizona we have a drug court program, designed specifically to assist people who have drug problems.
By the way, the drug that is causing the most problems in the U.S.A isn't brought in from other countries... crystal meth is cooked right here in America, in our own kitchens. Killing people isn't going to solve that problem. Educating people about it and giving harsher punishment for drug related probation and parole violations, and especially harsher punishment for the manufactoring of dangerous narcotics would help the situation. And also not only making certain medications that are used in manufactoring slightly less available to the public, but making them prescription only so that it is more easily monitered (although we would also have to increase health care coverage and lower insurance rates to do so but that would sure be a lot cheaper than the death sentence which costs millions in taxes) and putting chemicals like drano behind the counter would prevent some of the more potent forms of crystal meth from being made.

China does many awful things. That alone should prove that it is not a good idea. The death penalty is a bad idea overall, not only because it is cruel, but also because it makes criminality worse rather than diminish it. This has been proven by psychological research and by reality, as countries with the death penalty have more criminality.
Plus, in the specific case, rest assured that those who would be executed would be some poor addicted (=ill) young creatures who need pity not punishment, whereas the big fish would go on living their luxurious lives saved by not doing their dirty job themselves or by their big lawyers and money interests that they serve. Don't be simplistic!

Whenever I see someone makes this statement the first thing I ask is:
How many people are killed by illegal drugs?]
How many people would you have to kill to solve the problem?
Invariably, they can't answer either question, so let's start with some basic facts.
The number of deaths from drugs in the US each year is about:
Tobacco - 400,000
Alcohol - 100,000
Prescription drugs - 100,000
All illegal drugs combined - 15,000
Marijuana - 0
So, if we aren't going to bomb the tobacco fields in North Carolina and kill all the people at the Coors brewery, then why kill people over a much, much smaller problem?
In short order, we would kill more people than the problem itself -- and we still wouldn't solve the problem.
Now, if you really want to understand the subject, start by reading this book http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/studies/cu/cumenu.htm

I think that drugs should be legalized. Americans spend 19 billion dollars of their tax money each year on a war that isn't working. Not to mention the 30,000 spent every year per inmate put in jail for doing drugs. Think about it. Often times it is easier for people underage to get their hands on illegal drugs than it is legal alcohol and countless people are killed every year because of drug smuggling, all because drugs are illegal. Read about prohibition in the roaring 20s. It is the same scenario. Who cares what someone does as long as they do it behind closed doors. As long as they aren't hurting anyone else let them do their drugs and instead of punishing people that are drug addicts by putting them in jail so that they can continue their habit, why not offer programs to help them control their addictions. Punishing people for being a drug addict accomplishes nothing. We should offer them help.

The death penalty's a ridiculous idea. As much as I hate drugs I know they can alter a person's reason entirely -- because I did them. It's just not ethical to kill someone for letting themselves get screwed up, because, even if they know exactly what they're doing, it's still for the money -- which is a more dangerous drug than anything you can make in a lab.

Sasori and Shane have very good ideas and should be implemented. However, I would take the drugs and burn it. After that, take a gun and put a bullet through their heads. I am I full of hatred? YES I am! These drug dealers do not mind killing people with their drugs and sometimes shooting at innocent people. Additional comments: No over crowding in jails.

It may be a good idea, but there will still be people growing pot and producing meth labs inside their own homes, not from across the border. Just like prostitution, it will just prop up somewhere else, because of the demand from drug-addicts and pushers.

Actually I think they should go into the streets and pick up all the drug addicted people and do the rehab with them. Maybe then they could see the destruction drugs cause in people's lives.

Applied to hypocrite, Rush Limbaugh's illegal drug use and his strong denunciation of the aforementioned, it would be poetic justice and a swell idea.
