I had an account from an old apartment that they told me was closed in 2002. I am a single mother of four & it's winter! I have lived at the same address for 2 years & am current. Now they're telling me I had an outstanding bill from 4 years ago & that's why it's shut off.

yes, but if they can not provide documentation of the debt then you should be able to take them to court i would think

Unfortunately they can. Call and talk to a superviser. See if they will turn it on and offer to make payments on the old account. Whatever you do it has to be paid because it can go against your credit.
