I'm pleased that they banned them. I have a real problem with the companies that manufacture these altered fats, knowing they can lead to heart disease. The fact that New York city did ban them, should tell the rest of us just how deadly trans fats are.

It's Horrible. Why should the government be getting that invasive in our lives. Whatever happened to personal responsibility? People know fast food is bad for them just like they know smoking is bad for them. If they CHOOSE to eat it then let them. Not make every business change it's strategy. And why do we choose food to take a stand. Don't we have more pressing issues for our "leaders" to tackle. Are they going to waste tax payer dollars enforcing this? Imagine being denied a good job because your record has Unlawfully filled the fryer ticket on it. And don't give me that our insurance will be cheaper crap. Trial Lawyers are the ones raising your insurance rates not trans fat. These people will still be over weight. The other fats have the same amount of calories. If you wanted to stop heart disease you should make people exorcise, and eat less.

Neither. I don't see any reason the government should be educating people about the danger of trans fats or requiring restaurants to notify people. If people want to avoid trans fats, they can simply ask. If enough people care, restaurants will advertise that they are trans fat free. The fact is, this nanny state regulation is designed to make people care. The decision of whether to consume them should be left up to us, but the decision of whether to go to restaurants that notify us about them should be left up to us too. If people really cared, restaurants would be falling all over each other to advertise that they're trans fat free. But the nanny state believes that people *should* care.

I think that the government is bored and they are just trying to fix what's not broken. If people want to eat fat, let them. It's choice. The government is stepping in a little too much.
Besides even if you do eat this crap, it's your own responsibility to control you own health. No one else's.
Once again we must all be forced to abide by the change, because people are to lazy to care about themselves.

As a NYer I am sure you know that there are compelling health reasons to stop and only economic reasons to continue to use trans fat.

I think its a great ideal and it should be nationwide. If they did that you would see a lot less heart attacks and strokes our insurance would be cheaper and people would live longer.
