Nobody should be given college educations.
They don't appreciate it. Regardless of whether they are prisoners or not, students should have to work for the money to learn.
Most of the people in colleges right now don't belong there. Many people in prison should be in college. The question is whether or not it is worth it.
The money people spend on dope would pay for college. The money the government spends on dope wars would pay for college for the people who need it.
We have prisons to turn amateur criminals into professionals. Until that idea is addressed, why would you want to turn them into credentialled criminals?
Didn't we have enough of them in the Bush administration and Enron already?

Not unless we make college for everyone else free . . .
My reasons . . . well, I FIRMLY believe in rehabilitating prisoners so much so that I think the entire prison system needs reform.
That said, a person who honestly wants an education and can't afford it should be able to obtain that college education. Giving a prisoner a college education for free is almost like rewarding someone for being in prison and punishing a law-abiding citizen by denying them that education.
As for a different solution . . . . I think maybe prisons could offer prisoners the chance to earn a college education through good behavior and taking on responsibilities. Also, maybe a post-prison program could be implemented (as in stay out of jail, get a free college class). The logistics of those would need work, but I'm just thinking off the top of my head.

No I don't think that they should be able to go to college for free. I think tho, that while in jail or prison they should learn a trade and be able to use that when they get out. Most people who are released from jail or prison have a hard time finding a good job. Learning a trade can help them...and possibly keep them out of trouble....just a thought.

right here in California, maximum don't get unfastened college. very few prisons have college courses attainable, especially what maximum get is a GED or HS degree. maximum study interest skills working jobs around detention center making under a $a million an hour. think of approximately it this form, an excellent style of the detention center inhabitants will sooner or later be returning residing house. some even on your neighbourhood. What could you like for those men to make a contribution on your community while they get residing house? do you elect them to get jobs and grow to be taxpayers or could you somewhat they proceed helping themselves the only way they comprehend how? additionally alot of the boys in there are clever and have already been to college. do no longer stereotype them with the aid of the crime.

I am always for someone educating themselves.
Prisoners have to pay for everything above the basics, so our tax dollars aren't an issue.
However, most people in prison are there for felonies. Felons don't get hired outside of the Alaskan fishing boats.

yup
maybe they could become better people and contribute to society
even if they are and should be stuck in prison for life, it doesn't hurt anybody if they learn and think. Maybe they could even make videos to teach if they are good at it. Or educate other prisoners who maybe stole pizza or something and are getting out next year. Then maybe they could do useful things in society instead of crimes. And have chances to get money in good ways.

No.
I like the chain gang efforts.
They are having great results with that in many states.
I think that prisoners are best suited for forced labor,
Or being forced to join the military (and be first to go to the front lines).
Thier choice of course.

How is that solving anything?
There are millions of students who can't get to college due to financial reasons, yet felons should be sent for free?
It doesn't make sense. Teens who deserve a chance aren't given one, and those who commit crimes apparently DO deserve a better chance. Let me guess--to get out of their criminal ways.
Give free college to those who really deserve it. I know I don't want to sit in class next to a convicted rapist.

I know people want to rehabilitate prisoners, but in reality, they are being punished. They should really be punished. Why help them out? I know, I know...we should try to make them change, but free college just says, "you raped a girl, here's some money!!! Great job, buster!!!"
I think the only things prisoners should get for free is: work, jail cell time, and cleaning duty...that's it. They can go to school when they get out and pay for it themselves.
