It is getting ridiculous in scotland. People cant walk past a school smoking, or stand at a bus stop, or smoke within 3 feet of a shop, aswell as not being able to smoke in the pubs and what not! In i way i agree with it, if it going to save people's lives. But they are taking this ban too far. You cant go anywhere in scotland without seeing people standing outside a pub smoking, well the latest news on that is they are going to be fined £50 on the spot! It's already started in some places. A council member, and someone from a smoking society with a POLICE ESCORT. Going around issuing fines, left right and center!!! Now is there not a thief, murderer, rapist,or peadophile to go looking for??NO, they would rather use their police resources to catch people smoking outside a shop and pub!!! It is a nanny state, and the people of england have got it all to come!

Yes Yes, and your point is?
As an ex- smoker myself, i object to seeing filthy, disgusting smokers hanging around. There is no room for them in Jack McConnell's Scotland.
I am proud that we introduced the ban first but it did not go far enough. All public smoking should be banned. I mean, how would you like it if I took my trousers down and did the toilet in the street. You wouldn't like it, would you. So why should selfish disgusting smokers be tolerated.

I think it's a really good idea. Smoking not only impacts the smokers health, it also affects those around them. If you're going to say it infringes on peoples' human rights, then I could easily argue that as a non smoker, being exposed to second hand smoke is an infringement of MY human rights. Most of the smokers I've spoken to actually aren't that bothered by the smoking ban, and are quite pleased that it's actually helped them cut down. I haven't met that many people who are against it to be honest. And I like it because it means I can go into a pub with my friends without having to take an inhaler with me, because my asthma is very triggered by smoke.

Yes, a case of pursuing the wrong priorities. I think smoking in pubs should be allowed, particularly if the owner of the pub wants it. I would support a ban in almost all other indoor places, but I think that it is downright mean and vindictive to ban it in pubs. The passive smoking argument is a LIE. To ban it in the outdoors, shows the anti-smoking zealots for what they are; mean minded lunatics. Once a smoker has left their home, there is nowhere that they can smoke. Drug users who commit crime to feed their habit are regarded as victims, but smokers are regarded as pariahs. In my experience, smokers are a great deal more sociable than the self obsessed, petty and mean minded, housewife type mentality of the anti-smoking obsessive. The answer for these people is, stay out of pubs they weren't designed for the likes of you. Anyway, you will want to ban alcohol next.

I think Scotland's new measures to cut smoking and make it harder are a good thing and we should all follow suit. Or just ban it outright that will solve a lot of problems.

It must be easier to catch a few people smoking themselves to death in the street than catching burglars and muggers.Don't forget McConnell and his henchmen/women are all dyed in the wool socialists who love depriving people of their pleasures. I accept as a non smoker myself that many people have strong anti smoking convictions but feel the Scottish Executive have gone overboard on this. Of course their chums the Scottish Liberals will go along with anything involving the spending of taxpayers money.

It depends on individual councils. This also shows up in enforcement rates for which I believe Renfrewshire holds the record.
