I have to admit, I’m not really one to be up on all the laws and such. But, I thought that when boys turn 18 they, by law, have to sign up for the draft. Maybe im confused on this, but I thought this was correct. HOWEVER, the other day in class a boy told me that girls have to sign up for the draft too. My teacher countered this boy, telling him this wasn’t true, but the boy said that they recently changed the policy. Does anyone here know the answer to this? As a girl, when I turn 18, do I have to sign up a draft?

Actually, an explination of the draft might help me too. Thanks so much.

No, females do not have to sign up for the draft if they don't want to. However, males have to. Sorry don't worry chica you have nothing to worry about.

The draft, and registering for the draft, are two diffrent things. Right now there is no draft. However, all men turning 18 years old must get on the list, i.e., register for the draft, so that if there ever is one, the government has some basic idea of who is who and where they are. I do not believe that women must register for the draft, since women have never been drafted before. This would be a major policy change, and I doubt that it has occured. You simply turn 18, and go on about your own business as a female.

Even if it is true, it means nothing. You are simply registering for a Draft that will not happen unless WW3 happens. You can also choose to not register, but may be unable to get certain student loans or benefits.
