Elderly Driver Who Killed 10 Gets Probation

LOS ANGELES (Nov. 20) - An 89-year-old man whose car hurtled through a farmers market, killing 10 people, was let off on probation Monday by a judge who said he believed the defendant deserved to go prison but was too ill.

George Russell Weller was convicted Oct. 20 of 10 counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence in a case that renewed debate over whether elderly people should lose their driver's licenses.

Weller, confined to a sickbed, was not in court for his sentencing.

Superior Court Judge Michael Johnson said he agreed completely with the jury and called Weller's actions callous and showing "an enormous indifference to human life."

Weller was 86 when his 1992 Buick Le Sabre plowed at freeway speed into the crowded farmers market on July 16, 2003. In addition to the 10 killed, more than 70 people were injured.

Your thoughts on the sentencing of George Weller. Was it fair?

There are so many accidents that involve drivers who .....

- are overly tired.

- are older and not as quick as they used to be.

- just had a fight with a significant other.

- are taking certain prescription medications.

If I drink 3 beers and drive, and you havn't slept in 3 days, why do I face such stiff judgement, when you walk free?

I'm creating a website on business startups. it is a resource for everyone who wants to start a business. Most of the information i have is from the books i've bought and from the internet. How can i put these information on my website. can i copy word to word and assign acknowledgements and not get sued.
Can i rephrase the entire article and put it without acknowledgements.?

I worked for them in the 80's, and have a significant hearing loss, esp one ear. Live in Ireland, where their phone service is being sued for causing industrial hearing probs. Have only just heard bt also being claimed against. Need more info as to who to talk to, time limits etc,
