I'm creating a website on business startups. it is a resource for everyone who wants to start a business. Most of the information i have is from the books i've bought and from the internet. How can i put these information on my website. can i copy word to word and assign acknowledgements and not get sued.
Can i rephrase the entire article and put it without acknowledgements.?

how do i not get sued?

If you want to cut and paste, you have to get permission from the publisher. If you want to use the information and paraphrase, as long as you do not copy the information, including charts, you could be okay. Be very careful to use your own language and put your own spin on it. Information and ideas are not protected, it is the expression of those ideas. Also, if the books give lists of things, do not put it in the same order. Hopefully this will help. I would see an attorney after you draft the page.

No, you can't do either, unless you get a signed release from the original author. You can however write new copy based on your reading.

If a court found that a substantial amount of the material was not in fact your own work, you would be liable to a civil case against you for copyright infringement.

I would get in touch with a lawyer from your state and ask about copywrite laws for your area.
