my daughter got a golfish at the fair yesterday. but, i read they are very messy. we have a 1 gallon bowl. i am now thinking, maybe she should just get a betta. if we do get a betta, can we put him in the golfish bowl? not with the other golfish though. like, would we have to change the water again even though the goldfish has only been in there for a day?

I set up my tank on wed, let it run for a day then added my fish (m/f convicts) i added filter media and gravel from a tank that has been running for a good while. Today when i went to turn the heater down the wire felt slimy. Is this just the tank going through the cycle. I know adding stuff from cycled tanks speeds the cycle process up but i didnt think it b this fast. Apart from my fish hiding alot and only eating the food from the bottom when im not near the tank they look healthy

I used to own betta fish in water bowls. I loved having them, but I hated changing the water. I would like to own fish again, If I get a good filter, and scrub the side of the tank every week or so, Do I have to change the water? If I do, how many times do I have to do it a week? Thanks............=)

I have one female guppy and about a month ago, she had baby fry. I was only able to rescue 2 of them, as the others were eaten by the other fish in the tank. I put them in a breeding net, but yesterday she had another set of guppies. I rescued 3 of them this time. When I put these in the breeding net, I noticed the other 2 older fry were chasing and biting the tails of the newborn. I'm afraid that the older fry will end up eating/hurting the newborn. Yet if I put the older litter outside the breeding net and into the tank, I'm afraid that they will be eaten by the adult fish. Should I worry about the older litter harming the newborn fry?

I currently have a 20 gal tank running with an undergravel filter and a powerhead for improved suction and circulation. The residents of my tank include 1 Rainbow Shark, 1 Opaline Gourami, 8 Harlequin Rasboras, 4 Hengel's Rasboras and 3 Otocinclus. Do you think it is too crowded? If yes what do you suggest I do? Please note that the Rainbow Shark is my baby and I could never part with him. Thanks.

I bought a pair of ghost shrimp for my betta's 2.5 gallon tank to help clean it. I put them in, but Monet, my betta, seems to be picking on them. He keeps puffing up at them and darting around in a circle as though trying to coral them.

I am worried about his being to stressed having them around. Should I take them out, or just wait and see if he calms down and gets used to them?

My male betta made a huge bubble nest, so i finally put her in there, she swam underneath, n she swam under him, but she ended up on the other side of the tank at the bottom. Then when she started swimming, the male started chasing her and bitting on her, her fins is a little messed up. So should i just leave them alone??? or should i take her out until he acts right??

My fish seems a bit bigger and this other fish always follows. Sometimes the pregnant looking fish follows the other. They both sometimes rest under the leaves together and almost never come out.
And They are in a pond outside, what should i do?

I know how to sculpt clay, make molds, and cast resin. I'm looking for an easier, less expensive, process.

Two possibilities come to mind:

Is there some material, like a modified concrete, that can be sculpted like clay, dried, and put to use immediately in an aquarium?

Is there a safe way to lacquer baked/painted clay sculptures, for use in an aquarium?

I'd experiment with different materials myself, but such an experiment may kill my fish.

Hi,
Me and my stepmom have been regulary getting in a debate about a fish tank. It is a 29 gallon tank given to us after her dad she didn't have a close relationship but I did passed away. At first she was protective of it and had to choose all the fish she wanted, even though I new the tank was overcrowded; she just wouldn't listen. Then after all the fish died, she had been calling the tank mine and I remodeled it with a natural riverbank layout and it now houses 3 fantail goldfish who have a 55 gallon filter. I have used my allowance/birthday/baby sitting money to buy the gravel, fish, plants, found the rocks and glued them together for caves, medicine, filter cartidges, and basically everything else the tank needed except for the light and filter we got close to a year ago. I am the one who cleans the tank, gives medication, feeds, etc. Anyways, lately we ahve been argueing over putting stuff on top of the tank. She runs a daycare and puts daycare socks, wipes, baby bottles, and o

We have 5 goldfish, all different species. One of our fish was all gold when we bought him but he now has black edges to his fins and tail. Is he just maturing and developing this colour or is it an infection or disease?
