Why do you barbarians eat fishies. Fish species have higher intellectual capacity than you primitive monkey mammals.

Why hasn't my female platy gotten pregnant? I have been reading that platies mate like crazy and will almost definitely get pregnant. I have a male and female platy in my tank, I've had them for about 6 months and they both reached sexual maturity about 2 months ago. They are in a 10 gallon tank with 2 white skirt tetras, and 4 tiny neon tetras, the tank does not seem to be overcrowded. I keep the temperature around 78 degrees and I have a filter. There are fake corals and thick plants in the tank. Both platies are healthy and very active. So, my question is, should I expect a pregnancy, i.e., is it a definite thing, or is it possible that the platies will never mate?

Thank you.

Ive let the tank cycle for about a month and a half now, my local fish shop checked the water and said it was alright to get fish, so I bought a cleaner shrimp, and a clown. The Clown died two days after because Oodinium. Now its only the cleaner shrimp in there, and its been about a week since the clown died, and now the live rock is turning brown on the parts where it was white. Is this normal?....I hope so =[

My gravel (which is lightgreen and white) has started to turn brownish from algae, I now know to leave the lights on for shorter periods of time, (i have no live plants), So any ideas how i can get the algae off the gravel WITHOUT removing it, And i dont want a 'sucker fish' or 'algae fish'

Thanks

why is it that so many people are so mislead when they talk about saltwater aquariums?
giving people wrongful advise, when they obviously know nothing of what they are talking about?
you DO NOT NEED live coral for a SW aquarium to thrive. nor do you NEED live rock or live sand, or 8,000 watt metal halide bulbs!
stop furnishing myths and leave the advising to people who know what they are talking about and have had first had experince doing it the right way.
there are a bunch of different ways of making a SW aquarium.
FO (fish only), the most affordable way, only requires saltwater, fish, a few basic peices of equipment, and a filter and heater.
FOWLR (fish only with live rock) is a little easier to do but more expensive as it requires the purchas eof live rock, up to tell dollars a pound in some places. but you can subsidize this with half and half live and regular rocks, cutting costs in half.

For the past 4 months or so, my 15 gallon tank has been growing so much algea. The water turns completely green if I don't completely empty it once a week. I really don't want to have to do that. Any ideas on what I should do? ...I already have a plecostomus. He does good at cleaning the glass and stuff, but he can't do the water.

I have 6 fishes in a 10 gallon tank. 2 green tiger barbs, 2 albino tiger barbs, and 2 regular tiger barbs. I also have 3 fake plants in the back of the tank which leaves them a lot of space in the front, and since they school together they don't take much of the space. I don't have any problems with cloudiness or with algae, I take out 1/3 of the water every week and change the filter pad every 3 weeks, and the temp is around 78 F, is this ok?

I've had them for a month now and they seem to be doing fine.
Is the rule of 1 inch per gallon true?

I'm thinking of moving the to a 20 gallon tank, if I do can I add some more tiger barbs?

I bought some Flourish for my plants. I haven't used it yet. Is it safe to use if you have fish in the tank? Are there any fish that might be sensitive to it? Is it a good brand? Any other suggestions?

I am just watching a show about Bull Sharks on channel 5 (UK) and I cannot understand the fact that although there are loads of fish swimming all around, the sharks only eat the fish that the people are giving to them. Does anyone know why?
