If you are going to have fish, you need to do it right. Don't torture the poor things in a small bowl. You will want something bigger soon anyway. *trust me, fish can turn in to a mini obsession quickly* so you might as well start off with at least a 10 galon aquarium. Getting a bowl will be a waste of time and money. And don't have a single gold fish. That is just kinda sad. :0(
Bowls are for a single fish. A 1 galon bowl really only suits a Betta.
You may want to join a Gold fish group in Yahoo groups. Just sit back and read. You don't even have to join in the conversation. ;0)

First, you can keep your goldfish in a bowl if you don't care that they won't live longer than a few weeks or a few months. If you want to provide the healthiest living conditions for them possible, then they can't live in a bowl because:
1. WASTE: Because of how their internal organs are structured, goldfish produce more waste than any other fish. The waste produces deadly ammonia. Thus, they require more water space to handle that additional output of ammonia.
2. SIZE: Goldfish grow to be very large. Fancy goldfish can grow to 8 inches in length and 4 inches in girth. Slim-bodied goldfish can grow up to 2 feet in length. The saying that goldfish only grow to the size of the bowl is a falsehood. Yes, their body will only grow to the size of the bowl, but, their internal organs continue to grow and become compacted, distorted and will ultimately cause death to the fish.
3. OXYGEN AND FILTRATION: A filter not only deals with the water's chemical, mechanical and biological needs, but it also keeps the water moving and thereby adds oxygen to the water. There is not enough oxygen in water without that circulation. A bubbler will not produce enough oxygen either. There is no place to put a filter on or in a bowl.

Goldfish are pond fish that get up to 18 inches long. They are also extremely messy so a bowl would need to be cleaned daily. If you put a huge fish in a tiny bowl, the fish will be stunted. Stunting is when the fish doesn't grow but the organs do. This causes premature death. In a bowl, Goldfish won't usually last more than 2 months (their normal lifespan is 15 years with proper care).

Because it will die. You can't live in a closet with no air either. A goldfish needs air in its water, and the top of a bowl is too slim, plus there is no filter. And goldfish grow to a foot long and put out a lot of waste so they get stinted and poisoned and die. No fish shoudl be kept in dirty water, even bettas should have a filter. If you want to be cheap, a living creature is not the best thing.

goldfish, no matter how pretty they are, theyre like pigeons, in a fishy way.
theyre dirty fish in other words.
theyll constantly eat and the food that drops in the process will sink to the floor and pollute your tank.
plus the bowl is small and the fish will run out of oxygen very quickly.
and you cant have a filter for a bowl.
if you want a goldfish i suggest a 10-15 gallon tank with a proper filtration system.
theyre alot of work infact all fish are, but theyre so fun to keep :D
good luck!!

It is possible to keep a betta in a bowl and have it survive. However if you want your betta to live a long and happy life then your need a 2.5 gallon tank with a filter and a heater. It probably sounds like a lot for a little betta but the filter and heater really are necessary. Bettas are tropical fish and live best in water that is over 75 degrees.

because goldfish are not small, fancy ones can get to 12 inches, and feeders can get to 24 inches +.
Goldfish are also messy, so they need a big tank with a good filteration system, like a canister filter.
Bowls are good for bettas ,not goldfish as the goldfish will produce more waste than other fish and cause the water to be poor in quality.

I hate questions like this
Very simple because you would stunt the growth of your fish!!!!!!!
That means as follows:
The fish will adapt to the surrounding of his size from the visual aspect, but his organs don't stop growing because of his genes and it will have a cruel death as a result
Be smart, and if you really want to get goldfish, don't get anything smaller then a 20 gallon tank

Actually you can. I bought a comet goldfish, and placed in in a bowl with nothing but water. No filter, air pump, gravel, and such and it lived for 3 yrs.

Becuse goldfish grow to be almost two feet long and they are messy. Without a filter, the ammonia and nitrite will build up and will kill it.
