If a person cleaned a 2 1/2 gallon fish tank.OFTEN could a Otocinclus catfish live in it safely. It would have a heater but no filter. and some silk plants. and Maybe a betta. I know I know i dont need to hear Male bettas have to be in a tank a lone because that is not true I have had male bettas in with other fish in bigger tanks and they have did just find and so did the other fish and African dwarf frogs. Just want to know if OTO catfish would do ok in a tank with out a filter and a 2 1/2 gallon tank

Otos would need to have a filter, or at the very least an airstone or undergravel filter, to circulate the water in the tank.
Even if there wasn't enough algae, you can supplement their food with algae pellets and fresh veggies like zucchini, cucumber, romaine lettuce, or any dark leafy greens. They are also better to keep in a small group.

Here's the problem: you see w/ no filter you gotta clean the tank more often but the more you clean the tank the less the oto has to eat. You can provide algae wafers and veggi supplements like zuchini however those will still add to some extra waste in the water as a single oto can only eat so much. You would be better off giving him no more than half a wafer a day.
As pointed out in other answers good oxygenation is a deffinite must if you have no filtration though filtration would be best.
I have successfuly housed one oto in a 2.5gal tank with my male betta however I did have a very small filter in the tank that suction cupped to the inside wall. They do make very small inside filters like this for small tanks. I do not know the brand of mine though it is similar to one on this link. This link shows many kinds of smaller, cheap internal filters that should be suitable for your setup.

An oto needs a filter.
I mean, you could TRY it, and you might get away with it for a while, but I would bet that in the long run it'll be the death of the poor guy. I wouldn't bother.
He'd also be hard to catch for those 100% water changes a nonfiltered tank needs, and all that chasing with the net would stress him and make him susceptible to disease.
You'd also have to make sure you provide him algae tablets.
I have also housed a betta successfully with otos, tho in a filtered 10g tank.
Whether or not it can be done with any given betta really depends on the temperament of the individual betta and space would probably also be a factor, since bettas are territorial. I'd say a 2.5g tank is a bit tight to expect a betta to share space in. Again, depends on the betta.
So anyway, my view is- don't put an oto in a nonfiltered tank.

It all depends on what kind of algae grows. Either they keep or they don't.
I would not keep more than one fish without a filter. I recommend getting those air stone disposable ones that attaches inside the tank with suction cups. They work well, especially in small tanks, plus they provide your fish with oxygen.
Otto catfish really like to have real plants, replacing the silk ones with real ones would help keep the water clean and give both your fishes a natural habitat.

Otocinclus get about 2 inches long. They prefer to be kept in groups of 3 or more so you could probably house 2 in there, though it wouldn't really be ideal. If you got a bigger tank, they're great cleaning helpers, cute, and totally fun to watch! Mine LOVE cucumber!

An Oto would die, first, because of the lack of oxygen, second, because of the small space, and third because they prefer to be kept in groups. No Oto for you.

with no filter, no.
if you have a filter it would be ok with a betta.
The problem is, they can be senstive to water quality so 2.5 isnt much to work with and even more so with no filter.
