I just today bought a pet Betta. I wanted to get a fish since my room is tropical themed and they're calming to watch, and not only are Betta's pretty, but easy to care for. I am a teenager on a budget, and as it is I spent nearly thirty dollars for everything I bought. I bought a 1 gallon betta tank with lid and light. It has the marble rocks and a plant. I know that people say they don't need huge tanks, and alot of the betta tanks I saw were under a gallon. Do you think a Betta can be happy in a gallon tank. It seems happy enough. Also suggestions on best food. I got this Betta BioGold stuff by Hikari that is supposed to float and enhance your betta's color. It does float just fine, but my Betta tends to take it in it's mouth and than spit it back out several times, which causes it to sink to the bottem. Then it gets in between the rocks, so he can't really get to it anymore. I dont want to add any more food and cause problems, but I don't want my fish to be hungry.

My neighbor had a beta, and she asked me how to change the water and clean out the tank, and some other things about betas, well my mom used to raise them and i told her all i know, i told her to scoop the beta into a baggy with the water it already is in, and clean the tank out with regular water and a tank cleaner, and put fresh luke warm water in the tank, and place the beta in the water still in the original baggy and water for about a half an hour to get used to it, so she did this, and the beta died, now she is blamming me and told me not to come over any more because i killed her "baby" did i tell her to do something wrong? why is she being so acusitory with me?

I know some people just leave them in the tank with the adults, but I was researching and I found this:

http://www.thesnailstore.com/index.php?act=viewDoc&docId=10

Should I do as they say or just leave them in the tank they came from? Which way will provide a better survival rate?

We currently have a 10 gallon tank and are moving the fish up to a 45 gallon hexagonal tank and would like to put a few more fish in the tank. All four of these fish are between 4-6 inches long.

i had 4 platies and 2 mollies in a 10 gallon tank. all the platies died and the 2 mollies have been acting weird. i thought they were both males but now im not so sure!! the one white mollie keeps laying the the gravel under a bridge that i have in the tank. this bridge has a blue plant in front of it and the other mollie just sits outside this bridge. they both come to eat but ALWAYS stay together when the one decides to actually swim around. when i cleaned the gravel (or at least started to) i found a tiny tiny tiny little fish that came out from under the plant. so i stopped what i was doing and let it be. did my mollie give birth at sometime? and if so, why is she staying under that bridge and near wheere the baby(ies) are? i thought they eat their young? please help!!

I was thinking about getting Java Moss, Java Fern, Cabomba, Banana Plant, Hornwort, Pennywort, and Egeria najas.

Any other recommendations? Will the snails eat some of these? I know that Java Moss and Hornwort are generally safe.

Any planting information on them, or how they grow, and whta conditions I need to give them.

Mystery, Ramhorn, Malaysian or Trapdoor snails? I am a breeder and have all 4 on hand. I was thinking the Apple will be better since I can always see them and I can take out and keep the eggs they produce. Along wit the Malaysian snails to keep the gravel turned for the plants.

My boyfriend and I recently bought a 5 gallon hexagon tank with a filter along with 6 fresh water tropical fish. If someone could answer these questions in number order to make it simple for us to read, that would be appreciated!

1.) Is a 5 gallon tank big enough for 6 fish? They're not going to get really big and they seem to have plenty of room.

2.) How often should we clean the tank even though it has a filter?

3.) How often should we feed them? Right now we're feeding twice a day, usually 12 or more hours apart.

4.) Lastly, is the water supposed to be a little cloudy?

Thank you! = )

I bought a 10 gallon Aquarium Kit and some additional equipments yesterday from Petco yesterday. (I would have bought a bigger tank, but my dorm doesn't allow any tank over10 gallon)

Right now, I have the following:
-10 gallon tank, Hood with light, Thermometer, 50 Watt Heater, Air pump set, Whisper 10 Power Filter (90 gph), 10 lb of gravel, Fish net

I never own an Aquarium in the past, but I have read many guides before I set up the one I bought yesterday. However, I still have some questions.

1) I am wondering whether my setup is ok or not. Also, I want to know what other equipment do I need to buy. (Note: I have no condition, or tester etc yet. The stuffs that I listed above are all the stuffs I got.)

2) I don't have any plant or other decorations in the tank right now, but I am planning to buy some when I go to buy the fish next Monday. Can I put the fish into the tank right after I put those plant or decoration in?

3) How much air should I let into the tank?

I was adjusting the clownfish loach to the water and before i knew it the fish was gone. I know the clownfish loaches are more sensitive than goldfish. My ph was on the high side it was around 8.0 and my amnonia was alittle high. im not sure if this is why the fish died or not. i dont want to add chemicals to the tank because i am afraid it will only hurt my other fish. if anyone knows why my loach didnt make it and what i could do so that future fish i buy wont pass away. im confused thou because one loach did make it and then the one i got today didnt. so i really dont know

I've been wondering how do i get my fancy guppies to breed?
I decided to try breeding fancy guppies about six onths ago. So i read up on them and it said that if you were to breed the you have to buy two females and one male or tfour females and two males and so forth. So i went to my local wal mart and bought two females and one male, a bredding net, and some breeding grass. But turns out the lady at the store got me two males and one female. and i guess the two males got agressive over the one female and the larger male killed the other male. so i was left with one female and one male. so i decided to breed them anyways. i left the female and male in the breeding net for bout two days and took the male out. and i waited for bout two weeks and the female started to get fater and had the dark black spots in her stomach[the babies] . and theen nothing happened. andthe same things been happening for bout six months ago. what should i do to get s successful breeding outta her?

All my pond fish died. I found a pecan shell in the bottom of the pond, when I drained it. I also found hundreds of tiny red worms in the water, in the algae on the sides of the pond, and in the filters. The plants are doing just fine. How can I get rid of the worms, so I can put fish back in the pond.

It was fun last time so let's try it again. Who wants to give some words of advice regarding fish keeping. Just say what you feel needs to be said. This time I won't pick a best answer but let it go to a vote in the community.

Have fun ;-)
