Make sure that the fish does not have "Bloat", which is caused from infection or bad water. I suppose that if the fish is actually ready to lay eggs, you must have the right conditions and probably won't have to worry too much about what to do. A good supply of aquarium plants might help.

that doesn not mean it is going to breed.

neon tetras are one of the hardest species to breed in home aquariums.

Unless you found the secret that many fishkeepers dont know, then they wont breed. Fat fish dont always mean pregnant.

Neons will get big, but thats do to the fact that the fish has alot to eat.

Edit: ok its getting funny how none of the people who have posted know anything about neon tetras and their breeding....

You need to either get another fish tank or buy a special egg holder at the pet store. I am not sure what they are called I know they stick to the side of the tank and the protect the babies from getting eaten.

You want to separate it so its safe and nothing eats the eggs and then when it lays eggs you want to separate the fish itself from its eggs because it will kill them then when they get big enough put the baby's with the other fish.

Put it in a seperate smaller tank. After she lays the eggs, put her back with the other fish, but leave the eggs in the other tank,

Neon females that donot have mates will just absorb the eggs.
If a male is present the eggs will be scattered about . In any case you need do nothing , she'll be ok

Place it in another tank until it scatters the eggs. Neon tetras are easy to get pregnant, but hard to raise the fry. When the fry hatch, feed them newly hatched brine shrimp or fry food.

Get some plants in the bottom of the tank. Once it has laid its eggs, remove the mother into a different tank so she doesn't eat her young.

If there are other fish you should get a tank separator so that they don't eat the babies.
