poke your sister with a stick a big sharp one get her in the eye if you can......OK DON'T!!! its cruel tell her i said hi for no reason and say don't poke with sticks!!! my Betta used to stay still like that especially at night time i guess it was having a rest. throw a few bits of its food in their and see what it does you might be surprised in his change of manner. he might just be sulking fish are quite a lot more intelligent then we take them for Siamese fighting fish have be known to learn to swim through rings for food in just a few days! give him some food and a water change check the water perimeters. i hope all goes well and remember to tell your sister NO MORE STICK POKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If he doesnt move yes, did you check the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels?
Whats the water temperature?
They need the temperature to be 78 to 83degrees Fahrenheit.
They also need to rest. Most fish rest around 7-8hours like us but some dont.
If hes sideways or upside down give him a thaw pea or let him fast(not eat) for 1 day.

They are one of the more standing fish since they use air to breathe additionaly to their gills. This may be why. They are also more delicate then say, a comet goldfish, so it could need extra care. Water quality is all of what the fish will be, so if it is right, your fish will thrive more then if its not so great, it will feel that way, too.

Get a frozen pea or two and crush it just enough to crack it open, then drop it into its tank/ bowl. I'm not sure what this does but worked for our fish that we thought was dead.
