First of all do all the research you can
If you ask a question, read every answer to it very carful and use common sense if some of the people are right or wrong about their answer, if you're not satisfied ask the same question again a few days later, you might get completely different answers from people who might haven't had the time to check questions and answer them on here
Don't believe that a fish will grow to it's tank size, it will optically but you will kill a goldfish in a bowl, because it's organs will grow to the size they are suppose to and the fish will die a cruel death
If you're planning on getting a betta, get at least a 2.5 gallon tank for it, not just a bowl or a 1 gallon tank, it's cruel and it should be forbidden to be sold in any store
If you're planning on getting goldfish, start out with at least a 20 gallon tank or better a 30 gallon tank, because your fish need space to grow, or you will stunt them
If you are starting a tank, don't forget that you have to cycle it first, either fishless or with fish like a couple of zebra danios, you're going to be much happier with your tank in the long run and your fish as well
Don't overfeed your fish, only feed them what they will eat in a period of 3-5 min at each feeding, which you can do twice a day
Don't forget to do weekly partial waterchanges of 25% a week, to keep your tank clean and healthy
Always check your Ammonia, pH and nitrite levels, to ensure the water quality

Do everything the correct way first and be over careful like testing water religiously every week and do everything by the book until you are experienced enough to know what can slide and what can't. You will get to a point where you can make you're own decisions based on your own experience, conclusions, and common sense rather than rely on advice from 'fish experts'.
And yes: research, research, research!

Here's some advice about fish keeping and has a professional outlook. Build a fish house that will accomodate 40 tanks. If you cannot afford the cost...do not bother to keep tropical fish.

not sure what you want,
but my famous fish quote is.
"fishkeeping is not a right, it is a prevlige" that is the best i can tell people. about fishkeeping. Just because people can go to the petstore and pick up rare fish, and hard to keep fish, doesnt mean that they should.
Sometimes people get so imvolved in thinking if they can, that they dont think, if i should.
For betta breeders to be...
You will not make any money, so dont come into the business trying to make it rich.
Research, as if you dont know the basics, you will not go far.
Pay your dues, you cant expect to do what i and others have achieved unless you pay your dues. That means years of deciation and research, it will not come over night.

Take the time to enjoy your fish. Turn off the television, make yourself some tea and watch them. It's very relaxing and peaceful. Why can't you enjoy your hard work?

Use common sense, and don't be an idiot. When people tell you something isn't going to work, don't ignore them and try it anyway. Also, don't base your decisions on only one opinion.
