i had 4 platies and 2 mollies in a 10 gallon tank. all the platies died and the 2 mollies have been acting weird. i thought they were both males but now im not so sure!! the one white mollie keeps laying the the gravel under a bridge that i have in the tank. this bridge has a blue plant in front of it and the other mollie just sits outside this bridge. they both come to eat but ALWAYS stay together when the one decides to actually swim around. when i cleaned the gravel (or at least started to) i found a tiny tiny tiny little fish that came out from under the plant. so i stopped what i was doing and let it be. did my mollie give birth at sometime? and if so, why is she staying under that bridge and near wheere the baby(ies) are? i thought they eat their young? please help!!

If you found tiny fish then the only answer is that your Molly did have babies and you don't have 2 males. You should be able to tell which is male and which is female by looking at the anal fin. The male will have a more arrow and pointed anal fin while the female's is more triangular.

There are a few different reason why the Molly is now laying around. One is stress. You can help promote good health and lower stress by adding salt to your water. Add 1 teaspoon of aquarium salt per gallon of water. See if that doesn't help perk up your Molly.

You might want to see if you can figure out why your platys died. That too could help you find out what is up with your Molly. How were your Platys acting before they died?

You might also want to find a breeder to put the fry in if you want to save any. Good luck.

Please check your ammonia levels, pH levels and your nitrite levels, I have a feeling that at least one of them is off the chart

yes, and it is very possible that your Mollie had fry

If you have a planted tank, I would just leave the babies where they are, they survived until now, so some of them at least are going to survive

Not all the females necessarily eat their young, and your Mollie might be really stressed out

Your molly might not be done giving birth. They like to hid while giving birth. They usually but not always eat their young. I would do a partial water change that way if your ammonia levels are to high it will bring them down.

yes they do eat their young put some filter floss or stocking over the filter so they don't get sucked up. Put some spawning mops in their so their parents don't eat them.

hope i could help.
