no you can't, because a plecostomus is a tropical fish and will die in a pond because the water is to cold
I would recommend bringing it to a fishstore or trying to sell it on ebay or craigslist

Do you live in the tropics? If you live in North America your fish will live through the summer and then fall asleep forever in about September. Maybe you could get a bigger tank or find some one else to take the fish. Leaving it outside is not a good idea.

Yes you can, my school did that and the algae reduced a lot from it.

So yes it will help your friends pond algae problem.

maybe if you slowly add pond water to the fish tank it might get use to it and sooner or later might be able to mve it to the pond
