I currently have a 20 gal tank running with an undergravel filter and a powerhead for improved suction and circulation. The residents of my tank include 1 Rainbow Shark, 1 Opaline Gourami, 8 Harlequin Rasboras, 4 Hengel's Rasboras and 3 Otocinclus. Do you think it is too crowded? If yes what do you suggest I do? Please note that the Rainbow Shark is my baby and I could never part with him. Thanks.

Additional details...
Most fish in my tank are adult size accept maybe the Rainbow Shark. I know that an Opaline Gourami is not going to get to be 8" to 12". Mine is probably between 3" and 4" which is about how big they get.

You are fine, but you are running into the aquarium hobbyist's biggest problem: There is never enough space.
The good news: Once you start to get into aquariums, friends and family will give you their old equipment.
It's an addictive thing, and we always want more fish and bigger tanks. But, as far as your tank goes, I would stop there. I have gone over the "one inch of fish per gallon of water" rule in the past, but the fish don't seem as happy or healthy in a crowded tank as they do in an underpopulated one. Right now, for instance, I have a 55 gallon with 2 angel fish and an otocinclus. Very mellow, and the fish thrive.
In the past, I have packed my tanks with fish, and, with regular water changes, had no problems. But, they seem nervous and nippy in a crowded tank.
Good luck.

The only thing I would watch for is the Gourami. It can get 8-12 inches and that (depending on how you define humane) can be a little cruel. Try returning him and getting a Dwarf Gourami instead. They have tons of different colors of them (none are dyed) and they stay about 2 inches. The Shark may show a little aggression randomly, but nothing to worry about. Good luck!

It may or may not be over crowded at the moment depending on the size of the various fish. It will be slightly over crowded once all of those fish are near adult size, but nothing to be worried about. As long as you keep up with your maintenance and water quality it should be just fine.

do basically not upload the rest. you will desire to be effective. If the water starts off to get cloudy, then you definitely know you will desire to do away with countless the fish. it incredibly is a stable sign of over crowding. stable success!

Nope. Your tank is a great place for all those fish because they are all community fish andit isn't over crowded.
