Don't get a fish bowl! Bowls are not acceptable homes for any fish, not Goldfish, not Bettas, not fish fillets! Bowls cause ammonia to build up very quickly and it is a tiny home. Goldfish get almost 2 feet long and will die withing months if kept in a bowl. Bettas get extremely stressed if kept in bowls and they require a heater because they are tropical fish. Spend the extra $15 to get a 2.5 gallon heated, filtered tank for a Betta.

If you are looking at a bowl please consider a 5 or 10 gallon setup instead.
You can get a full 10 gallon setup for around $60 that will include the tank, light, heater and filter.
Bowls are not suitable for fish and even though some fish can survive in them none will be healthy or live long in them.

Don't get a bowl! If you really want what's best for your fish look into getting a 10 ar 20 gallon setup. The rule of thumb is one inch of fish per gallon. I really don't think you can apply that rule to a one gallon bowl. Trust me, you will NOT regret getting a 10-20 gallon tank instead of a bowl... and so will your fish.

If your getting fish you actually need a tank, they come in different sizes. Fish need a filter and continuous clean air being filtrated into thier environment, a fish 'bowl' with only serve to encourage bacteria growth to a phenomenal degree and eventually kill your fish.
What kind of fish do you have or are thinking of getting? Every species is different in relation to care and survival in the same space.
They are a great pet to have, I've had many differnet kinds of fish over time, though salt water fish are the hardest to get ready for. A salt water tank requires a few weeks of bacterial growth to sustain anything that lives there. Trust me, I learned the hard way, though beautiful, its not easy to set up a tank worthy of any type of ocean bearing fish.
Look into starter tanks that come with airation, filtration and such. If you have African Siclids, your in luck!!! They love 'brackish' water which is a mix of salt & fresh. All they really need is rocks (med to lg) to form caves and lots of gravel, they will do the rest, aside from water testing.
Though keep in mind, this fish is very aggresive & territorial. There are some fish you simply cannot mix with them. Sorry I went on for so long...Good Luck!

Depense what size and where about in the world you are, Im from the uk and and a 1 gal bowl would cost about £3 here. Check at the local pet store - baring in mind that goldfish CAN NOT live in a bowl, as said above only a betta.

Ditto to nosoop4u246, save up the extra and get the tank. Even a 10 gallon set up isn't that much more and you will be so very glad you did.

Well, it really depends on where you get it. Here is a chart that I made for you:
Petsmart: $3.00 - $10.00
Petco: $3.00 - $10.00
Ebay: $1.00 - $10.00
Like I said, it really depends on where you get it! I hope that this answers your question! Thanks, and good luck!
