My sister recently gave me the most beautiful aquarium decoration I've ever seen, but I'm afraid that I might introduce something bad to my fishies if I put it in. Is there a way that I can clean it so it's totally safe? I have no idea who the previous owner was, so I have no idea what it has or doesn't have.

I don't have my fish yet. I want to get the aquarium totally functioning before I introduce them.

Thanks!

I have a large pond and i'm wanting to put Koi in it but i'm not sure where i can buy some. I don't want to pay too much for them (PetSmart sells them for 7 bucks, for the small ones, so any place cheaper would be amazing) Thanks!

My 2 mollies and 2 swordtails (in my 5 gallon tank) always look hungry. I walk into the room and they come to the top of the tank where I feed them. I turn the light on and they come to where I feed them. I leave and check on them and they're still there. They gobble down the BIG flakes but not the smaller ones. I used cloudy water stuff and it doesn't help!!

OK, my platys are doing "No 2's" like mad now...!!
I carried out a water change earlier today - 20% and a clean - all the platys are looking fine and quite happy... except they are continually pooping...!!!

I am not kidding, just now all 4 of them had poo coming out that was 2-3 inches long...! The longest was at least 4 inches...!! I have never seen so much, is this normal??

I have tested all my levels since the water change - Amm 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 25 and pH 7.6 - so all OK, exactly the same as before my water change.

Please let me know if this is something I should worry about, or if it's normal for small platy's to have such long poos.....!!!

My betta gets his bowl pretty dirty, and if I don't clean it every week like I should, it gets a ring. I've tried cleaning it with warm water and a paper towel, but to no avail. Are there any ways to clean that ring away that will not harm my fish? I know that any chemicals will surely kill him. [[ps, I have had my fish, Gilbert, for almost three years so I try to be very careful with him because I adore him]]

I had six clown loaches in my tank for over a year. They are approx six inches. Everything I have read tells me that clown loaches are next to impossible to breed in captivity, especially if they are only small like mine.

However, I went away for a little while and left my brother with strict instructions on how to care for my tank (ie, water changes, feeding, testing water quality etc). He did an excellent job by the way.

When I got back, the first thing I did was clean some extra weed out of my tank, then feed them.

Lo and behold, SEVEN loaches swam up to get the food.

Yes SEVEN!

The extra loach is very small, only an inch long compared to the others.

Where did he come from? Is it possible that my loaches spontaneously bred? Or should I suspect my brother of playing tricks on me?

I have a quarantine tank, saw a fish with Ich at the store I brought home and tried to cure. Unfortunately he didn't make it. Have a chance to pick up some Dempseys tonight and want to use the tank. Can I just take everything out and boil the decorations etc. and clean the inside of the tank with boiling water? Will that kill the Ich that I can see on the slate, gravel and other decorations? Don't need to worry about messing up the bacteria, the tank has only been set up for a week. Really don't want to spend money on medicating an empty tank. Is the Ich stuck to my carbon cartridge and everything in my filter too? Or can those be boiled as well? Thanks for any help. I'd love to get these Dempseys tonight they are beautiful.

When you are taking care of an closed eco system such as fish are, is it more important to listen to experienced owners of that species of fish, or to read up an internet posting of what someone has studied? What do you feel is more important and why. By choosing one or the other does not diminsh the importance of the other one, but back up your answers balanced between articles and experience. Why would you prefer to listen to one over the other when it comes to making a decision? Example, you can clearly see your fish is distressed by it's behavoir, you know something is wrong, but you don't know what course of action to take, you have someone who's had that species in thier care before, and you have someone who linked you to an article giving advice on what to do, which one do you give more weight to and why? Thre aren't really any wrong answers here, but this is just to get insight to what you think and feel and why.

We dont want her in our house(trust me). Would it be better to leave outside the shed? The only problem is bugs and dirt particles and we have a dog and two cats. Suggestions? Ideas?
