Probly spelt em wrong, but anyways, I have a 10 gallon freshwater, with 5 neons, 2 black skirt tetras, 2 bleeding heart tetras, and a pleco. I have used incandescant lights for the past 4 years, but they seem to raise the temp of the tank nearly 5-9 degrees. I have had to use silk plants because I cant supply enough light without overheating the tank. A lady at petsmart told me I could use florescant as its a brighter light, better for the plants, and emits less heat. Has anyone had experience with this? I would love to know before spending upwards of $30 on plants and lights!

My pictus catfish is, i'm almost positive, has ich. Though I don't want to move it from the main tank, can I give it a salt treatment with the other two fish I have in the ten gallon main tank? A Dwarf gourami male and a black kuhli loach. Will it harm them? And how do I heat up a tank or tank it's temp without a fish thermometer or a heater?????

I have a Shibunkin (i think that's it) goldfish, and it has many assorted colors. Such as black, orange and it's tail is white. I've only had it for a few days so i am not used to how they look exactly, but recently saw a VERY small white spot on it's body that i have never seen before.
How can I tell if this spot on his body is ick?
How much longer do i have to give him medicine (if it is ick)?

I just bought a 10 gallon tank and one Betta fish. He looks pretty lonely and the tank needs to look more lively. I know that Betta fish don't get along with other Betta fish. What fish do you recommend I put in with my Betta fish and what equipment should I use? I already have a ph test kit and fish net.

About ayear ago we were given a tank with some common goldfish and a pleco. They have all co-exist quite happily until recently. I woke up a couple days ago and one of my goldfish had his eye sucked on. I got rid of the pleco but am wondering about what I can do to help my lovely goldfish to heal. He has a round circle of red with white around it (like peeling skin almost) with some black marks that I assume are bruises. The eye itself looks fine. Also, should I move him to a separate tank to heal? Right now he is in a 50 gallon tank with 2 other goldifsh, a bottom feeder, and 5 rosy red minnows.

Thanks for the help!

When I do partial water changes I add 1/4 tsp per gallon. I have an Angelfish in my tank and was told when I purchased him that I need to add small amount of salt to tank. But I saw a website that said you should not add salt to a freshwater tank and that it's not good for the fish. Who's right?

I've heard that there is a plant that helps keep a non-filtrated fishbowl clean. My daughter has a beta, and we have to change the stinky water about twice a week. Any advice is appreciated.

My tank is not overstocked. I do monthly gravel cleaning.
I have to constantly use PH up to keep it at a safe level for the fish and I tried using proper PH 7.0 but it made the water very cloudy and it still is only at 6.2. I don't have live plants in the tank they are artificial.

Do some fish swim on slants or tilt?? My goldfishies seem to be on a tilt a little. Not on their side but on a 5 to 10 degree slant. They swim properly and seem to be doing great. No illnesses visible. They are eating and everything.

I am currently in the process of cycling a 10 gallon fish tank with the goal of keeping seven fish, including one male Betta in it. As such I am wondering what fish would go well with the Betta, any suggestions?

I have 5 very interesting pieces of driftwood that I'm interested in putting into a fish tank. They used to belong to my mother in law who at one time had them in her tank. It's been years and now there's some green mold on them. How do I remove it so they will be safe to put into my tanks?

I thought my fish were having constipation issues, turns out they've had ich! Two of them died before I finally figured out what was going on because I couldn't see the white spots. My female betta has some white spots on her now and is kinda lethargic and doesn't want to eat, although she isn't as bad as my poor guppy was before he died. My cory seems fine and happy as always.

I'm stopping off after work to pick up meds to kill the ich. My questions are:

1) Should I do a total water change first? The tank has some algae and it's about time for a good scouring, although I did my regular 30% water change last weekend.

2) Will the ich meds hurt my cory? I keep reading that scaleless fish can't handle the meds too well, but not sure if corys fall into that category.

I have a humble pond at home. I always wanted to get a bigger pond and I came across this link : http://sg.auctions.yahoo.com/sg/i:Water%20Feature%20%2F%20Fountain%20%2F%20Fish%20Pond%20%2F%20Landscape:7872289

I LOVE it to death and I know my fish will too! I dream about having koi fish in a nice big pond. I am thinking of putting this in my balcony (we do not have any garden or whatsoever) and creating a garden concept the interior design.

Besides it burning a big hole in my pocket (Im really not well to do I cld cry!), why else shd I not get this?

Trivial I know but as you can imagine I will just get this if its cheap to me but its not... :)

I recently started a new saltwater aquarium and im just letting the tank cycle with three little 3 dot domino damsal's and two of the 3 stripe damsals, its been running for about 2 weeks total and 1 week with fish in the tank. i have very little amonia being a a new tank and 0 nitrate and 0 nitrite my pH is 8.3 so everything seems to be fine with the water. i have more than enough filtration in the tank and the protien skimmer is running smooth. I have done many tanks befor but this time i am getting these orange spots that dont seem normal forming on top of the sand. Has anyone seen or heard of this befor and know what is causing it?

My saltwater tank is 6 week old and I'm entering a new world of aquarums life. I believe I may have over feed my fishes at one time and even had the temp below inside the tank with the air condition on in the house and I though the fish where going to die. So if theres anyone out there who can please help me save my investment and my new found family...I would be so grateful.

I just bought two Platies last week and I noticed that one of them had a bigger middle than the other. For the last couple of days the big bellied one has been hiding in their "cave" and hasn't been as active. When I checked them this morning, she was dead and there are 3 babies in the tank now. Is it normal for them to have babies and then die?

Just yesterday I bought a VERY pregnant white & yellow platy. She looks like she could pop any minute. I'm very new to keeping fish so I need some help. I also have 3 neon tetras and a "sucker fish" in the tank with my platy. I have some breeding grass floating at the top of the aquarium. I bought a breeding net today (not in the tank yet) but I'm hearing different things about whether or not I should put the pregnant platy in it. Is it better to keep her in the net or out and just let the fry swim into the breeding grass? Thanks for any help/tips you can give. I sure would like for at least a couple of the babies to survive.
