Do you think he want to breed? I don't want him chasing my female cherry barb and end up making her sick. Is there anything I could do?

Most likely wants to breed. I doubt he will make her sick fromchasing her really, but there are two things you can do. Either give them some fin leafed plants to spawn in or remove one of them from the tank.

He wants to breed. He'll always want to breed. If you don't have at least 5 Cherry Barbs get some more so you have 5-7 of them and try to make as many as possible female. This will spread out his amorous behavior and he is far less likely to harrass a female to the point of injury.

He's a male, she's a female...of course he wants to make her sick, um I mean breed ;-)

Assuming your female is looking a little larger than she used to, this would be her carrying eggs. He is trying to get her to release the eggs so he can fertilize them. If she doesn't look any larger, then it's possible its just aggression. How many cherry barbs do you have in your tank? If it's just the 2, then you should get more. These aggressive little guys prefer at least 5 so they can fight amongst themselves properly without doing any real damage.

Barbs are very territorial fish and like to have room....I imagine after a while of getting used to each other they will stop and be happy with each other, if there are any other fish in the aquarium it might be causing the male stress and it probably isn't just chasing the female but all of the other fish to defend it's territory. Good luck with your fish :-)

I would buy another female, this way he can't chase just one, and the female will get some rest
