Yes Betta's can be put in tanks with filters. And the strength of the current is not a problem for them either. I have mine in a 36 gallon community tank with a Magnum 220 canister filter and the current doesn't bother it. He just stays away from the flow hose. Your Betta will thrive very well in a heated tank with a filter. Also you won't need to change the water as often with a filter.

They absolutely CAN have filters, and NEED oxygen.
Their native environment is very rainy so they do best in fresh, clean water, which can only be provided by either a filter or constant water changes (like, daily.) And a filter is less stressful than changing water.
Females bettas do fine in the current from an average to strong filter, but male bettas can get exhausted fighting current with their extravagant fins. Either gender can shelter in plants or decor when they're tired if you set them up like "windbreaks" in the tank.
I hope you'll also consider a heater. Bettas stay healthier, more active, and more colorful in temperatures between 76 and 82 F.

If you have the money to spend on one, you could go with a halfmoon beta. They are pretty pricey though because they are very rare. (Here they are around $10-$20) They are pretty. If you have never gotten one you could also try a crowntail. I am also a lover of betas. I currently have 4 of them, 2 crowntails. They seem to be a little more aggressive than regular bettas so they are fun to watch. The like to spread their tails alot and have really cool shapes and different colors. I love watching my red crowntail because he puffs up at the tiniest movement. He is a DEEP red and has a long flowing tail. The other is a save from petco but I'm sure that he will grow to be just as lovely. As far as color, I'd just choose a color that you don't already have. Sometimes the white ones are the prettiest! If you are set on those colors, I'd say red. It just seems to suit the personality of a crowtail better! You could also try a female if you don't already have one!

Yes they can have a filter. It is common to have a betta in just a bowl with no oxygen supply and no filtration, but the do fine in either. Just make sure the filter is not too strong or the betta could be pulled up to it and the suction could make it unable for him to swim away from it. I have my betta in a 2.5 gallon tank from Walmart and it has a 2 gallon Whisper filter and it helps to keep the tank clean and circulate the water.

Yes, they can have filters. The main things that fish need are clean water, food, and oxygen. Depending how how big your tank or bowl is, determines if you need an additional pump or filter. If it's just a simple fish bowl, you just need to change 25% of the water every day or two to keep it healthy. Once you get to an actual tank ( 10 gal or above ) you can look at additional filters and pumps, and a bit longer between water changes.

They can have one, but because of the long fins the males have, the flow rate should be adjusted so it's not too hard for them to swim against the flow coming out of the filter.
If you're going to try and breed them, a filter may make too much current and the bubble nest may not stay together.

I used to raise beta's and you have chosen a nice easy fish to have. Just don't put any of them with each other.. of course, you probably already know that. But, no, beta's do NOT have to have filters, air, heat, nothing. They can live in a gold fish bowl. Do you have the ph test kit? You need to make sure your water is at the perfect ph, room temperature, etc. When in a tank with no filters, you need to constantly check the ph level of the water. It starts getting acidic due to it's going potty and all. Have fun. They're an awesome fish.

They are ok as long as the filter doesn't cause alot of current in the water, the calmer the water for a beta the better :)
Also, beta's NEED to surface to breathe, they can't only get their Oxygen from the water. So make sure he able to surface (they can "drown" if they can't surface)
