It will live for quite a while if you clean the bowl ever few days. However, you should know that it will eventually die a slow painful death due to being stuck in such cramped quarters. A goldfish is a terrible choice for a bowl.

Well, as I'm sure you've gathered from the responses above - the answer is "Yes" - it can live in your bowl. However, it's not a healthy environment for your fish. Goldfish are some of the dirtiest fish out there and should really be kept in a larger environment complete with a filter.
My recommendation would be to start shopping for about a 20-30 gallon tank for your fishies. They'll grow quite large (despite how cute and small they are at the fish store, all fish get to be much bigger...most fish stores only sell babies.) and will eventually need more room anyway!

Hi Dear,
I have 2 goldfish living in a vase for 6 mo now. What you can do is keep the water level low, so it can be easy to maintain. You will need to buy a solution dropper for the tap water. Put a few drops in the water without the fish in it. Let it stand for 24-48 hrs. For it can kill them if you add the drops in the tank w/the fish in it and that's how you can keep them alive. The water will always be at room temperature too same as the fish tank/bowl. So there will be no temperature shock to the goldfish.
Good Luck

From experience, it will live, just not as long as if you put an oxygen pump or plant in the bowl. A plant would be a cheap way to make it live longer, but you need to keep up with it algae-wise. Good luck!

If you want a fish that you can keep in abowl then I would suggest you get a Betta. You only have to change the water once a week. They are very clean fish. Goldfish are very dirty fish and should never be kept in a fishbowl or a vase for that matter.

I just hope you know that a common goldfish can grow 24 inches and live 20 plus years, so don't put it in a bowl find a pond for it.
but it will live for a while like magicman said till it dies from its bowl.

A 'filter' does not provide air, it just cleans the water of all impurities. It can live, but you may need to clean it weekly, or more often, depending on the size of the bowl. If it is 2 gal or less (please tell me its not less) then clean it weekly or whenever it looks cloudy or dirty.
But it won't suffocate.

A goldfish wihtout filter can live for a while. Try not to do this because this will be unhealthy for them (the goldfish)
