This is happening because of the pressure in the aquarium, the air pump does not have enough pressure build-up to push out the bubbles against the water. What I reccomend is a bubble bar which is really cool, you simply put it anywhere you want to in the aquarium and they come in different sizes. You bury them under the rocks and the bubbles come out in a long line. Good luck with your aquarium.

That has to do with what is called the head pressure of your air pump. The pump simply isn't suppling the needed pressure to push air out against the water pressure at that depth. Look for a pump woith a higher head pressure rating. If possible, have a shop demo the pump by running a line into a deep tank for you.

You probably need a stronger air pump.A larger tank deph means a pump has to work a little harder to force air out.

its not a problem with your air stone, but a problem with your air pump, either its not strong enough or the diaphram is going bad
