My pond goldfish just laid eggs and is now not doing well. it's been 2 or 3 day and she's floating on her side and gasping for air. Is there any hope for her?
She got verry large before she laid the eggs. Now she has some blister looking bumps on her under belly.
Help please!

Now my painted tetra are getting weird white things along the very tip of their top and bottom fins. Very fine lines of white, parallel with the tip of the fins, right along the tip of the fins. I looekd up some fish diseases and no pictures came up that looked like this. One also has what looks like a blotch of mucus or something on the base of their top fin. It goes from the bottom of the fin down onto the body, you could say it overlaps both parts a little at the point where the parts connect. I don't know if I should drop some Quick Cure in there or not, or if the white lines are just natural even, so please help me, and thank you.

I have a couple silver dollar tetras, some gouramis, a pleco, and some other small community fish in my tank. I heard that it is a good idea to add salt in the aquarium to help the fish. But i also heard some bad things about adding salt to an aquarium. I do not know whether to add salt or not. What are your ideas, should i do it or not?

I'm sure I already know the answer to this is a "no," but I'm rather upset with myself right now so I'm going to ask it anyway. =\

I have a 10 gallon tank that is split into 3 sections as to provide homes for 3 bettas. One of them has fallen quite ill. A few days ago, I noticed one of the three appeared to be rather listless. I didn't really think much of it, as when I noticed it I was packing to leave for the weekend. Upon my return this morning, his entire caudal and dorsal fins were covered in fungus! ;_; I've treated with Maroxy to the letter, but he isn't doing any better and I'm afraid he'll perish overnight. My other two bettas are looking listless as well, but I believe the Maroxy will take care of them.

So my question: Could I overdose the Maroxy to speed up the process? Or would this only cause ill effects for my ill betta?

Thank you to anyone reading all this and taking the time to answer!

I always used a floating glass tube hydrometer/thermometer combo. This link is similar to the one I'd been using.
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=7360&Ntt=hydrometer&Ntk=All&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Np=1&pc=1&N=2004&Nty=1
But today, I broke my 4th one in 2 years. Yes, I'm clumsy. The local pet store, which definately doesn't specialize in fish, only has this Instant Ocean hydrometer:
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=4952&Ntt=hydrometer&Ntk=All&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Np=1&pc=1&N=0&Nty=1
I've never used these before or known anyone to use them, but I was in the middle of a water change and needed something fast. It seemed to give readings that were different than the floating one. So which one should I trust? Any experiences with this Instant Ocean hydrometer?

I've got an electric catfish in our 125 gallon tank at home. When we acquired him, he was about 3 inches long. He's getting up to about 10 inches long (and fat!).

It sounds like these things get up to 40 lbs, 2-3 feet long.

When do I have to think about getting him a new home?

........ maybe a bathtub is big enough? my wife would love that!

Did a water change and the amonia levels spiked. I do not have any chemicals in the house and I'm far away from a pet store. I've heard baking soda helps but I don't want to add it unitil I get some advice.
