My pond goldfish just laid eggs and is now not doing well. it's been 2 or 3 day and she's floating on her side and gasping for air. Is there any hope for her?
She got verry large before she laid the eggs. Now she has some blister looking bumps on her under belly.
Help please!

Should I do the freezer thing and let her go?

Blister looking bumps are bad news. One of two disease causes come to mind. Furunculosis or Tuberculosis. Both are very difficult to treat and the second can actually be transmitted to humans so beware of exposing yourself to the fish or even the pond water.

The only direct way for you to tell them apart is when the lesions rupture. Furunculosis lesions will ooze a sticky slime of infection from them while Tuberculosis lesions will not.

Furunculosis can be treated with a strong antibiotic such as Furanace or Furazolidone with a mortality rate of about 50% when treated.

Tuberculosis can be treated with Kanamycin or Oxytetracycline and has a mortality rate of about 90% even when treated.

With both diseases the mortality rate runs very near 100% if untreated. Both are spread to the other fish when the lesions rupture, so remove the affected fish asap and treat in a separate container.

EDIT: Yes, I would strongly consider euthanasia for this fish.

Hope this helps answer your question and if you have any additional questions fee free to email me.

First off your fish may have been too young to produce eggs which caused her to become egg bound. most goldies will reabsorb the eggs and be fine while others cannot. IF this is the case, there is no saving her really.

DONOT freeze her. That is inhumane. Fish know when they are freezing and it is a painful way for fish to die. The most humane way is by using 1/4 cup vodka and 1/4 cup water. Place your fish into it. From the first breath she will be drunk and not feel a thing. By the 5th breath she will have passed peacefully.

However, the bumps are not TB this is rare even in gold fish and if your other fish do not have it it isn't it.

you can try to remove her and put her into a large pitcher or other suitable container. Be sure to do small daily water changes to keep the dissolved oxygen in the bowl. See if she perks up in a few days. She may just be trying to reabsorb the unlaid eggs. DO NOT squeeze her in order to try to get the eggs from her, you will crush her innerds.

The blisters could have been from the males beating on her in order for her to release the eggs.

Call a vet as fast as you can. She's slowly, painfully dying! Hurry!
