They should be okay for the goldfish, but they might not be okay for the plant. Some snails see aquarium plants as a salad bar. Depending on the type of plants you bought, don't be surprised if the goldfish may nibble on them as well.

The link I'll put below shows some of the types of snails found in aquaria. Apple, or mystery snails I'd keep. Malaysian trumpet snails or ramshorns - some people like them, other don't. Personally, the malaysians are one of my favorites! If they're pond snails, you should get them out - they'll multiply like mad and eat the plants.

I had the same thing happen to me. I bought 2 plants and about 2 weeks later I noticed a tiny snail... then another... I thought it was pretty cool! I got a few free snails! Haha! Little did I know, snails reproduce quicker than rabbits! in about a month I was infested with snails! Either take the snails out now, buy snail ridder/algae ridder, or buy a couple of clown loaches. They LOVE to eat snails and will keep them under control. Plus, they're really fun fish... but they like to be in groups of 4 or more. Whatever you do, act soon... or else you will be in the fish store freaking out... just as I was. The snails can be devestating to your tank if left unmanaged... they'll get in the filtration system and screw with the chemical balance of the tank if there are too many! Hope this helps!

You can buy algae wafers to feed them. I have one snail and i only give it half a wafer every other day. The snails will also eat left over fish food. Just be careful that they don't over populate your tank. They breed asexually and quickly. I've had my snail for 6+ months w/o baby snails, but i clean out the snail eggs frequently. The snail wont hurt the fish. Also just so you know, the snails will leave slime trails in the tank, which is harmless, but looks gross to me.

At the pet stores, they keep snails in with the plants. They eat the algae. (They can be a big help!) I'm almost sure that they won't hurt your fish =D You got a good deal! I had to buy a snail for my aquarium!

Well, good luck! =D

I would be careful about the snails because one time i bought 1 snail from Petsmart and all the sudden my tank was infested with snails because they can breed by themselves!

Apple snails are a solid selection simply by fact they're huge and uncomplicated to discard in case you enhance too lots of them. maximum individuals do not elect snails simply by fact they reproduce so right now, climb out of the tank on occasion and earlier you already know it, they're everywhere on your aquarium.

Snails are fine for goldfish.

But often, goldfish will eat them...
