My dad got 2 Beta fish, and when I put them in their fish tank they puffed up and started fighting. So I took one and gave it a time out in a separate jar. If I put it back in the tank, do you think it will have learned its lesson not to fight?

No matter what my husband and I do, we can't get the amonia levels in the safe range. It stays right between 'stress' and 'harmful'. We've done water changes, vacuumed the gravel, done more water changes, added a little salt, added some Cycle to the tank, cut back on feeding them.....We did a 25% water change last night while vacuuming and about an hour later, it was still in that 'stress' to 'harmful' range. Nothing seems to help.

We have a 55 gallon tank and we have in it: 2 dwarf gouramis, 2 reg. gouramis, 2 lg. angels, 4 conga tetras, one ghost knife, one clown loach and 2 albino cory cats.

Any advice? Thanks so much! :)

I'm setting up a ten gallon, filtered and heated, tank for some female bettas. I plan on having 3 to 5 bettas, with that amount, how many panda corycats would I be able to put? After adding the corys, what other fish would the tank support and be compatible with the corys and bettas?

on friday i cleaned the tank of the fish, i changed the water and dechlorinated it, then i cleaned the rocks to remove fecal matter.

however saturday morning 2 guppies died
sunday morning another 2 died
monday night i witnessed 1 die!!!
tuesday 2 died
no more guppies to die

but the other fish are alive!
4 orange fish and 2 neon tetras!

the one i witnessed die seemed to be falling down into the bottom of the tank, although it wanted to stay up. it even used a plant to keep itself up. all of a sudden it sank to the bottom of the tank. i tapped the glass it moved and a few seconds later started to fall again..until i thought it was really dead. i got it out using a net and it moved! i put it back and it eventually died...

what could be wrong? i cant think of anything since the conditions have been the same for the past 45 days...only now did they start dieing off....

A very small white spot has appeared overnight on the tail fin of my favourite prettiest shubunkin in a cold water indoor aquarium. I have heard of White Spot and wonder if I should treat the aquarium with its total of 6 goldfish (comets/shubunkins) and 2 green tenches - all very healthy by the way. I recently replaced half the water and added the usual tonic salts but used a different tap safe, an antibiotic one - hmmm, maybe a bad idea to change things in an otherwise well established and stable tank!!! So, calling all you expert fish keepers out there to let me have your suggestions or advice.

My idea was to have my gravel sloping down from the back of my tank to the front. I was thinking of having one main feature statue in the centre of the tank and then placing a bubble stone with a light under it behind the statue(producing a stream of coloured bubbles). I would also buy some live plants to cover the back wall of my tank.

Does anybody else have any ideas?

In the tank i have:
One Gourami
Two mollies
& One wee baby mollie

please give me some more ideas!
:)

i have a 50gal bow front aquarium that has just recently started to get cloudy water, everything was running perfect and the water was crystal clear, i added 2 small fish to my tank and about 3 days later is when it started happening, i checked my levels and they are: ammonia .50 nitrate is just under 5 and nitrite is .25, i have done a partial water change, changed my filter pads and added phosphate pads as well but its not helping, i do have a protein skimmer on the way and should be here later this week, i really cant imagine adding just these 2 fish would make the water cloud up so i dont know whats going on, any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Okay, so this is a very crazy question, and I've tried researching it on the internet, but haven't had any luck... I bought three red clawed crabs at PetsMart about a month ago and until last week, they were all living. Last week I walked into the room and saw one of the crabs was completely orange... at first I thought, okay, maybe it molted... I didn't know what it looked like when the crabs molted, so that was my assumption. I looked around though, and only saw two other crabs. It had died and turned orange (why?). I flushed it down the toilet. Last night, I walked into the room again and I was adding some extra water into the tank when out from under a large rock, a third crab sprints acrossed the tank. It's just a little smaller than the other two, and a littler smaller than the one that died... but it wasn't in my tank before this... can anybody explain this to me?

Okay so I was at the pet store and I saw Aqua Clear ammonia remover media which is made for my Aqua Clear HoB filter. I haven't finished my cycling yet and ammonia is starting to become a problem in my tank in spite of changing 1/4 of the water every other day staying at about .50 and raising to 1 the next day or every other day. My nitrites are staying at about .50 and I was wondering if I could use this stuff to drop the ammonia level and let my nitrites raise to 1 to feed the bacteria so I can maybe finally get some nitrates going (water is salted lightly to help a little with nitrite toxicity). Will the bacteria that absorbs the ammonia and produces nitrites starve if I use this product? I know I made the mistake of stocking my aquarium before I cycled my tank..I have 8 fish (2 corys and 6 guppies in a 29 long). They have been little campers so far..I'm still pretty new at this and making mistakes but I'm learning fast :)

One of my 4 neon tetras (one died) has a faint red spot (than the other ones) and is not joining the school of the other three tetras. I read somehwere that these are two symptoms of Neon Tetra Disease. I looked at the other tetras, and he IS NOT fading his color for the night. Should I be concerned and quarantine him?
