Any live plants or rocks you brought in. Also, when you buy fish, you don't want to dump the water from the bag into your tank, you'll want to net the fish out of the bag. That's another way to introduce snails, bacteria, algae, parasites, etc. into your tank. If you don't want them, start floating a piece of lettuce in the tank. The snails will flock to the lettuce to eat it. Just remove it and dispose of it. Keep doing that for awhile, until there's no more snails.

If you have purchased or are using natural gravel from a creekbed, hitchhiked home on a live plant or the eggs were in the water of a fish tank you purchased fish from.

Snail eggs can be transported in on plants and will hatch. Best to crush them before they get large enough to lay more eggs .

Did you add any plants?

Sometimes snail eggs are attached to plants you purchase.
