I have a new baby betta and it seems to have red on the bottom fin could this be fin rot and can I put some medication in the tank that he is in, there are three more babies in there with it, they all are over two months and a half, but the three of the other ones are still kind of small. Will the medication hurt them or should I just move the one with the red on his fin and put him into another container.

I own two java ferns and they seem to be growing roots and leaves off of the regular leaves, can you tell me if the new roots and leaves will fall off on their own or do I have to pick them off and replant them into the gravel in my tank.

ummm when breeding bettas what makes the female ready to spawn???

because my male betta is always ready and waiting under the nest but the female is never ready. she shows veritcal stripes she seems to be fatten with eggs but she is never brave enough to swim up to the male...
so i want to know what makes her ready? is it how big the bubble nest is? or is it when the male shows how aggressive he is and the female will feel safe to breed with him?

What are the readings I should be getting for a cycled tank? I am giving cycling a second try after the system almost killed my fish. I am getting .25 in ammonia and 0 nitrites. I don't have anything to read nitrates accurately yet besides those little strips. Is it something like 0 ammonia, .5 nitrites and 10 nitrates?

I was sold a black finned shark and a violet goby(as a Dragonfish) both as FW tropicals, neither stated longer than 8 - 10 inches. I have since discoved both are BW - marine water and will get quite a bit bigger. My question is are these 2 fish compatible. I still have the BF in a fresh environment as (he's?) still tiny - 1 1/2 in and the goby was changed over within 2 weeks. (he?) is already approx. 9 in. Fed mostly freeze dried shrimp and bloodworms - seems to thrive on them. I am hoping to acclimate the BF to BW and house them together?

I just rescued 2 BABY tetras from my brother's place. He hadn't cleaned the tank or the water in ages. We replaced half the water w/ new treated water and put in plants and a decoration from petco. We have a ten-gallon tank and a filter. Anything else? I'm considering getting a snail or algea-eater or something....

Is this stuff an ideal staple food for pike fish? I have Xingu I (orange) pike.

I'm still trying to find a prepared food they like that is also good for them. They seem to love this stuff. It smells like krill to me. Its kinda pricey & seems like more of a treat than a staple. The only other thing I found they will eat that isn't alive & kicking is frozen silversides.

Will they do allright if I feed them this stuff every day?

Hi everybody.

I have 1 goldfish in a 10 gallons tank and one live plant, is it better to change very little bit of water (about 5% of water) everyday or is it better to stick with weekly 25% of water change instead? Which way is better for the goldfish?

I don't want to keep her in the net if I am not sure when she will give birth. I have used easy balance in the water and am not sure if the male is annoying her and stressing her out or what I might be doing wrong. I've bred guppies but I have had this molly for a couple months and she has not released any fry that I am aware of.

We have an albino catfish in our tank. He's kind of old. He's been acting dead since last night. But, everytime we touch him with the net, he swims away, lays back on his side, or upside down. Should we go ahead and flush him, or give him a chance and see if he can make it through whatever is wrong with him?

We did have some fish get sick and die. But we treated the tank with the proper stuff. So there is nothing else we can do in that way.

So far, I have purchased 2 different types. Neither are picking up and recycling the gravel as stated on the package.
Aside from a using a dry vac, or pulling out and rinsing off the gravel, does anyone have some helpful suggestions?

I appreciate you guys helping me with my questions. Today has been a sh*tty day for my fish. I just bought 3 more chromis from petco, making this 5. When I woke up two of them were dead, and they looked to have been beaten up by the other 3 chromis. I'm so pissed off right now I don't know what to do. I was going to keep 5 chromis and 2 clowns. Now I dont know what I want to do. I am still going to get just 2 clowns, but I think I'm gonna stick with the 3 chromis instead of getting anymore. Now, I'm looking to add a hawkfish, blenny, or goby to the mix. So my question is what other fish should i get? I'm keeping 3 chromis, 2 clowns and I want two more, different fish. Any suggestions?

1 of my rosy barbs seems to think s/he is a circus act. S/he started about 2 weeks ago flipping, spinning, twisting, spiralling, tumbling, somersaulting about 90% of the time and only swimming around normally about 10% of the time. The 90% of the time s/he is acting up, it goes anywhere from a slow pirouette to a frantic kamikaze Roll of Death.

By the time my fish salesman got done laughing at the video footage, he said it looks like a neurological problem. Has anyone else had a fish develop this problem? Does anyone know what it is and if there is any cure? On one hand I hate to flush the pool little thing just because s/he flips out all the time, but then again, I also can't image going thru life with your body a constant uncontrollable whirlwind around you. I don't even know how s/he manages to consume enough food to survive, but when this started about 2 weeks ago I thought for sure death was near.

Hubby thinks we should 'put the poor thing out of its misery.'
