You should feed them as much as they can eat in 3-4 minutes each time you feed. If there is uneaten food after that time, feed a bit less the next. If they finish all of the food in 1-2 minutes, give them a bit more. Some people prefer to feed once a day and some twice. I prefer twice personally.

How Much Are Tropical Fish

Tropical fish should be fed 2 times per day. Feed them as much as they can consume in 3 minutes without any of the food floating to the bottom. Do not feed the fish as soon as you turn on the aquarium lights, wait a half hour and then feed the fish their first feeding. I would also suggest that you purchase a cory catfish and a flying fox to help consume the algae and inevitable extra food that reaches the bottom.

How long your feed your fish, or how you feed your fish, should not be based on a simple length of time generalized rule - much better to use common sense. Most fishkeepers tend to overfeed because it's hard for us to comprehend just far condensed, prepared fish foods go with these cold blooded creatures.

If I let my smaller fish eat flakes for a full 5 minutes they'd be extremely overfed. Smaller fish can eat a days worth of food in flake form in less then a minute. Larger fish end up needing many more flakes, and in this 5 minutes isn't so bad - but in this case you would probably be using pellets, which is much cleaner to feed large fish then flakes.

For pellets, a fish can stuff in an awful lot in a few minutes - my larger and more aggressive feeders can suck down a meal in seconds - much smarter to count out pellets and just give them enough for a mouthful, rather then let them gorge themselves for minutes at a time.

Once or twice or ten times per day is fine, but keep in mind to feed less for every meal you give them. If you choose to go with a timed method, then If feeding for 'two minutes' works for you once per day, you can choose to do '1 minute ' twice or 30 seconds four times per day instead, yunnersan?

I feed mine once a day, as much as they will eat in 3 minutes and on one day (Sunday) they are not fed at all! I feed a variety of flake, frozen and the occasional treat of live foods. I also use frozen peas de-skinned and cucumber for my bottom-feeders and all 3 tanks contain brightly coloured healthy fish with a minimum of care.
Most people feed fish far too much and the experts on most web-sites say once a day is usually more than enough.

I have 30 various tropical fish and I feed them once every 2 days, I've had them for 2 years and only need to clean tank every 6 months. You'll know if you're over feeding cos your water will go cloudy. Hope this helps

once a day that is all they need to be fed.over feeding fish produces high nitrate levels, and if like me you test the water regularly mine kept turning pink.i followed the instructions on the fish food which said three times a day.i ended up with dead fish because the nitrate levels were to high.i went to my local aquatic shop there staff are fully trained in fish keeping and asked there advice,i was told a pinch full of food once a day is all they need, and if the fish are looking hungry every morning i am feeding them enough.i changed my feeding habits for the fish and my nitrate levels went down within the week and no more dead fish.if you are concerned contact your local aquatic centre and get some advice.if you feed your fish to much your nitrate levels will rise and fish are then more prone to disease and death.i learnt the hard way.

As much as they can eat in 3-4 minutes. Use a net to clean out the excess. Do this twice a day. Feed a variety of high quality foods.

well it depends on the size of the tank and how many fish you've got as it says that there should be at least a couple of flakes of food for each fish so depending on that i feed my tropical fish (large tank) once daily and my smaller tank the same just a pinch for them though.
