I'm currently trying barley, but it doesn't seem very effective. Two of my KOI are longer then a foot and were a gift. I don't want tp use chemicals if I don't have to, but as it is, I can't see them anyway.

Ok...I am going to get a fresh-water fish aquarium for my house. I have no clue what fish to put together and what fish not too. I'd like them to be somewhat pretty. What should I get for the tank?

thanks

I have a 55 gallon tank. I have 2 peaces of driftwood that i want to add. The pet store that i purchased the wood from said just let it soak in water over night. Some people in the online forums say to boil it in water. i have done bouth of these things and the water still has a "tea color" to it. Now I don't want the tank to turn that color and if there is no way around that will it clear with time?

Hi, for all those who have not been following my questions since yesterday, heres the story in a jiffy. Male betta fish jumped out from spare container while his tank was being cleant. When I saw him I immediately picked him and put him in the water, got the tank ready, added the de-chlorinator and started the air pump for easy breathing and transferred him there. He was not moving for the 1st few hours but later started swimming and eating a lil.Today he is swimming more and ate normally. But his fins are still looking clamped together and not fanned out like they used to. Will that heal? I managed to get my hands on a general purpose medicine for preventing infections and added 2 drops to the 5 gallon tank, the store guy had no aquarium salt and no melafix.
Will his fins heal? They look torn in some places and are clamped together? He is swimming normally, his colours are much better since yesterday, he is reacting to activities in and around his tank and eating well.

Could someone please tell me what the real purpose of activated carbon in aquarium filters is? Does it remove ammonia?

I have a well planted 29 gallon aquarium. My betta was fine on Monday. I had him in my ten gallon because he had some fry. Well I noticed Monday, the day I put him back in my 29 G, he was hiding a little bit. Tuesday I noticed he had a swolen abdomen. Then I noticed he had foggy eyes. I haven't fed him or seen him eat since Monday. He is losing color slightly. He is also laying on his side to a degree. I have added a little elevated sea salt. I tried to get him to eat some green pea without the skin. He didn't eat it. I have done water changes regularly but it has been a while since the last one ( 3 weeks or so). I checked the water levels Ph. 6.6, Alk 40, Hardness 40, Nitrite .25 and Nitrate 60 these are estimates from the side of the tester bottle. Any suggestions. I built my tank around this little fella so any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

It just started yesterday, it looks like they are rubbing their gills. What illness is most likely the culperate. Will Aquari-sol do the trick, I have already raised the temp to 85 and 25% water change (all water properties are good).

I have had them in a ten gallon tank since January 3rd and they have not given birth and today is April 4th. They were in the pet store in the same aquarium so she should be pregnant. When will the fry come!?

ps. They are two adult swordtails females, two teenage swordtail females (that I raised myself) and one male.

pps. they are really fat and stay near the top.
