I have had them in a ten gallon tank since January 3rd and they have not given birth and today is April 4th. They were in the pet store in the same aquarium so she should be pregnant. When will the fry come!?

ps. They are two adult swordtails females, two teenage swordtail females (that I raised myself) and one male.

pps. they are really fat and stay near the top.

Platys and other live-bearing tooth carps such as Guppys, Mollys and Swordtails are easy to breed and raise. The main problem is in keeping the parents and other fish from eating the babies (called fry). You can buy a breeding net or plastic rearing chamber that you hang in the aquarium to separate the fry from the main tank. You can also simply add lots of fine-leaved plastic or live plants to the tank to give the fry places to hide. Baby livebearers will eat any finely-ground fish food.

If they are really fat and stay near the top, they could have a sickness like dropsy or an internal infection which is preventing them from becoming or staying pregnant. Usually only mixed breed livebearers are sterile.

It sounds like every time the live babies are being born, the tank mates are consuming them and that is why you don't have any babies. Keep some horn wort or some anacharis at the top of the tank for the babies to hide in.
